Lateral Flow

Please bare with me

So the past couple of days I have been feeling not myself, so yesterday morning I done a lateral flow test I got a very faint positive but ON the 30 min mark.
Yesterday afternoon I done another one again I was feeling tired, bad head and generally off again I got another faint line but was definitely darker but again was 26 mins into the timer and definitely got darker after the 30 mins.

So later on after my daughter came in from school I thought I would do a control one knowing she felt fine just to see if hers also came up with the faint line (I had also booked a pcr for this morning to be on the safe side and have isolated) again I got the faint positive but again this was more or less the 30 min mark that it showed up but my daughter was a stark white negative one line no other faint lines.

I have been for my pcr this morning still feeling generally off tinnitus, headache's and a bit of nausea.

Has anyone else had this with the tests and been for a pcr and had negative or positive result??, it says in the book not to read after 30 mins but my lines were appearing and getting slightly darker a couple of mins after the 30mins

If it was 26 minutes in then that is definitely a positive result. And with symptoms too I'd be surprised if your PCR was negative. I've read on here of people getting lines at or after 30 minutes and then getting a positive PCR. You're not meant to read them after 30 minutes but the one at 26 minutes definitely counts.

Hope you feel better soon.

Cookiesandscones · 07/01/2022 14:36

@RoxieLoxy thank you, I didn’t realise other people had posted about this I did try to a quick scan to see if any other threads related to what I was posting but couldn’t see any.

It seems likely positive. Tinitus is a known symptom of covid, and most people I know who've had Omicron have had a headache as one of their main symptoms.

JasmineGarden · 07/01/2022 14:42

Lots of threads like this, but it's SO hard to find threads on MN, don't worry.

That will be a positive result. I'd test daily (but just the once). It might be too early for your OCR to show positive.

Hope you only have mild symptoms

This was my darkest test from yesterday (still quite faint I know) hopefully it has uploaded

I have lateral flow tested again about 1 hour ago and there was 2 lines, again but very faint second line and couldn’t see it until 30/35 mins. Hopefully have the pcr results back within the next 48 hours ish so will know for definite.

We had delta back in July last year and because I don’t feel as terrible as I did with delta it’s throwing me to thinking evap lines.

My husband had a similar LFT but negative PCR.

Cookiesandscones · 07/01/2022 14:59

@Onlyrainbows did your husband feel unwell? Or just generally off??

OP posts:
Onlyrainbows · 07/01/2022 15:08

Tight chest and a headache. No fever though.

Cookiesandscones · 07/01/2022 15:11

Headache and tiredness is definitely my main things at the minute although my smell is doing a weird thing like I am stuffy but not but I have had this since delta my taste and smell will go all weird for some reason then just go back to normal

If you've got symptoms I'd say that's a definite positive. Did you just swab your nose? Try again and do your tonsils first (just be careful with the smaller swabs) inews.co.uk/news/lateral-flow-tests-omicron-covid-variant-detection-testing-kits-1374073

itwasntaparty · 07/01/2022 15:18

Positive.

Cookiesandscones · 07/01/2022 15:19

@emmathedilemma yes I only done my nose, I will try my tonsils maybe tomorrow if I don’t have pcr results back, I didn’t know you could with these tests

elelel · 07/01/2022 15:19

Have you not got any of the newer tests? DD has covid and is testing negative on those and positive on orient gene and PCR

Cookiesandscones · 07/01/2022 15:26

@elelel the ones have are flowflex that say to only do your nose

OP posts:
emmathedilemma · 07/01/2022 15:29

yes, they say to only do your nose but read that article about Omicron

Sorry I forgot they had a 15-30 mom read time! I was just thinking of the old nose/throat ones. Flowflex have a lot of false positive I would definitely try and get hope of orient genes.

Richtea2 · 07/01/2022 17:10

I did both lateral flow tests yesterday and was negative. So got up did the one for throat and nose and got same as you and people told me it's positive.

BluebellsGreenbells · 07/01/2022 17:13

Faint line means you’ve caught it early.

Mine was so faint it didn’t show up on a camera.

Hope you feel better soon.

Haffiana · 07/01/2022 17:15

Flowflex have a lot of false positive I would definitely try and get hope of orient genes.

No they don't.

Flowflex have a specificity of between 99% and 99.5%. They almost NEVER show a false positive.

I don't believe that. I have read far too many people saying otherwise.

Well, it isn't a matter of belief. However if you want to say 'I personally believe that Flowflex have a lot of false positive but the experimental results show the exact opposite' then you would not be lying.

Otherwise you are.

Oh leave off. I advised trying a different brand of LFT. You don't get to police my language.

ConcernedAuntie · 07/01/2022 19:47

No they don't.

I have had 9 positive LFTs and 9 negative PCRs over the last 6 months. The last 5 being Flowflex. I have never, ever, had a negative LFT on any brand used.

Although I am not wedded to the idea that they are "false positives for Covid", I do believe that for some people, like me, the tests are picking up something in our make up that is not Covid. I don't know what it is, obviously. I just know that when my DH uses a test from the same box his results are always totally clear.

A while back there were a lot of stories about kids putting fruit juice on their LFTs to get a positive result. If this is true, and I know you can't believe everything you read in the papers, they were getting a positive result without their swabs having been anywhere near their nose or throat. So something in the juice was causing it.

ConfusedFox · 07/01/2022 19:52

My daughter always has faint positive lines on flowflex and has had negative PCRs

InTheLabyrinth · 07/01/2022 20:27

I'd say that's a pretty definite positive. It's not faint at all.
Be interested to hear what the pcr says.
