6yo facial rash - post covid

Hello, my 6yo DS tested positive for covid 2.5 weeks ago. He has been fine, and completely recovered (only had a fever for 24 hours). The last few days he has developed a facial rash, red spots all over. Just the face. GP thinks poss post viral/covid related. Anyone else's child had this? It looks terrible!

my child no. I do though.

Post viral rash has always been common. My kids have had rashes following viruses many times

Godzillaandgodzuki · 05/01/2022 11:44

My DS9 always gets a rash following any virus and he has since he was a baby, he hasn't had Covid though.

JanglyBeads · 05/01/2022 12:34

The Zoe app has a whole collection of pictures of covid rashes, which iirc have often come post other symptoms for some children.

Yep. Known afew children with it

Covid lowers the immune system, causing viral infections to manifest in strange ways

I'm just surprised it's come out so much later, but thank you this is reassuring. Poor guy looks awful with it, reminiscent of the time he had chickenpox. Not sure whether to out anything on it or just leave it

My daughter had a virus (not covid) about 2/3 weeks ago. She is still left with a viral rash - like you said it kind of reminded me of chicken pox!
We’ve only given her piriton as it was itchy and she was making it worse. It was all over her front arms and top of legs :(

Ds3 has rash that started on his face, now it is on his back and arms. He tested positive mid December. I haven't taken him to the gp. Because he appears well in himself despite the itchy rash.

Is it bothering him? If its itchy, try some calamine cream, or E45 do an itch cream that's quite effective. Maybe look out for some symptoms of other common childhood rashes (chicken pox, scarletina, hand foot mouth) just to reassure you it isn't one of them, and if you're worried it might be, give 111 (that's the right one isn't it, I don't want you logging it with the police 🤣) a call for advice.

Apparently covid/post covid rashes are really common, particularly in children.

My 9yo developed a rash on each cheek a few weeks after having covid. It was a bit itchy and didn't go away with antihistamines or creams. When he got hot or too cold it looked like he had almost a big purple bruise on each cheek! I wondered if it was Slapped Cheek, but he didn't have any other symptoms and the GP thought it was due to covid as she'd seen similar before.

JanglyBeads I have the zoe app, how can I find the pictures please

Starrr123 · 20/04/2023 18:19

@Poppytime did the rash go? X

Poppytime · 20/04/2023 18:22

Just got a message that someone replied on this and brings me back to that covid Christmas GrinConfusedConfused - but yes it did go, took a couple of weeks to fully clear up though.
