I know covid can cause some changes to taste smell but I've read of burning or sulphur like smells.

I'm on day 10 and have been able to smell coffee all day, no coffee has been made at home etc. Anyone else had this?

Weirdly coffee smell was a bit of a morning sickness trigger for me many years ago so not really loving it!!

Shame you associate it with morning sickness! It should pass, it might be replaced with a different smell though. I had toasted biscuits for a couple of months, it was lovely, if impractical. Then i got eggs, luckily that only lasted a week or so. Currently it's heating fuel/plastic, not great I'd love it to be coffee!

Thanks for replying. Oh I would love biscuits Grin

Maybe it will change then, it's such an annoying illness!

Not coffee but I could smell hair bleach the other day so strongly. My housemate however couldn’t smell anything, so I’m presuming it’s my Covid causing it

My dp could smell cooking, like I was making a casserole or something very tasty, started late at night an hour before he tested positive

Smoke here. Thick, acrid house fire/bonfire type smoke. Very regularly at for sustained periods to start with. Three weeks later short bursts when waking or falling asleep.

Thanks everyone. It's so strange isn't it. I've had it on and off all day.

My friend had the smoke smell in the summer, said it was very unnerving and she had to keep checking nothing had actually caught fire. Smile

Yes indeed @PippinAndMerry. Was so strong the first time I leapt up in the middle of the night and was charging round the house and garden desperate to find the source as have had more experience than I'd like of house fires.
Coffee is a nice enough smell, but I can imagine it'll get annoying. It's all very very odd.

I have very little taste now and have a permanent aroma of burnt toast in my nose.

Theunamedcat · 05/01/2022 17:54

Mine is smoky burning smell ive told ds if he smells smoke TELL ME because I won't fucking notice

Well this is enlightening! I kept getting wafts of fag smoke for months. I never lost taste/smell and it was very mild, so it took ages to associate it with my Covid infection, but I think that's what it must have been. Even clean laundry smelled very vaguely like someone who'd just had a fag had rolled around in it.

Also DH's breath smelled really strongly for a very long while. Not exactly bad, just very strong. Which was challenging.

I've currently got covid - on day 3 and all I can smell is what I can describe as cheese and onion crisps! It's so bizarre...and awful! I thought my DH who also has covid had eaten some, but nope..and he can't smell it either!

I can also smell cigarette smoke.
