Home PCR done and posted back 31/12. No result yet. Normal?

Unfortunately I didn't keep hold of the barcode number (as was so unwell I was almost delirious so missed that bit 🥴 but yeah my fuck-up there) so 119 can't track my result.

The lady I spoke to said it's probably just delayed due to Royal Mail not working the past three days. It was posted mid afternoon on Friday well before the last collection time.

Has anyone else waited this long for a result and had it come through?

Just want to get back in to work. It's definitely not in spam folder.

Not had a home PCR but had a drive-thru. Got my results within 24hrs. Might be worth getting another test done. 💐

WorraLiberty · 04/01/2022 11:47

I posted mine on 31st and got my result back last night (as did my DH).

Did you use a priority post box?

We did, although it said on the box there would be no collection on new year's day.

User2638483 · 04/01/2022 11:47

I wouldn’t worry yet because of all the back holidays. It will have been delayed getting to the lab.

User2638483 · 04/01/2022 11:48

This is only the 2nd working day since you posted it off

WorraLiberty · 04/01/2022 11:50

Unless it's area dependent, the only holiday that should make a difference is new year's day, if OP used a priority box.

Cookerhood · 04/01/2022 12:04

If you used a priority box they were collected every day over the holidays. We posted one on 26th or 27th (lost track of the days!) & received the results less than 24 hours later.

JanglyBeads · 04/01/2022 12:08

Sheer volume of tests at the moment is slowing things down OP. I wouldn't worry yet.

Mine said no collection on new year's day.
MilkTart · 04/01/2022 12:32

I posted mine the morning of the 31st and still haven't had a result either. I also didn't take down the tracking number, but don't have the excuse of being really poorly!
My friend who did one at a test centre on the same day got hers within 24 hours

morningwaffles · 04/01/2022 12:56

Did you register your test before you sent it?

chocolateisavegetable · 04/01/2022 13:46

The last collection time on the 31st December was earlier than normal. DH got caught out by this - didn't say anything about it on the post box, but when we checked online, it said that the last collection had been several hours earlier than normal because it was NYE and there were NO late afternoon collections anywhere near us.

TwinkleToesStrikesAgain · 04/01/2022 13:57

Our postal test took 4 days to come back. A drive through test took less than 2 days and came back before the postal ones. (We did track the tests - we did them on the 29th, posted 2pm, were at the centre by the 30th, got results on the 2nd-3rd - 4 of us did tests at the same time but the results came back over a period of 24 hours...)

LazyMareofEastown · 04/01/2022 13:57

Thanks all.

Yep it was posted back via a priority mailbox.

waffles I didn't have to register it as it was done automatically when I ordered (see screenshot). Unfortunately the ref number from this email is totally separate to the ref number/barcode of the actual test, the two are not linked and this is why they can't track my result.

Frustrating.

Work have said to come back in tomorrow if I get a negative LFT rather than doing another PCR.............

Curiouser and curiouser.

Found the barcode (didn't realise it was on the front of the booklet that came with that was still on my sideboard). Rang 119 again and they've said that my test was only registered on 2nd January (2 days after I did it and returned it) and as such they can't escalate the request for result until 96 hours have passed since that date. Person I spoke to seemed very confused that it had been registered on a completely different date.

chocolateisavegetable · 04/01/2022 15:38

That does suggest that you had actually missed the last collection on NYE. As I mentioned, the post box we used still had the normal collection time on - it was only by looking online that we realised that all collections were much earlier on NYE.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 04/01/2022 16:22

Postal services have been crazy over the new year. Slightly irrelevant but I posted a card on Fri in the morning at a post box where the last post is usually 4pm. Then I noticed that the little metal plate that shows you when the next collection will be said Tues. Really cross with myself for not noticing it earlier.

bestbefore · 04/01/2022 16:26

Check the NHS app - under Covid info - your result might be there! Mine was...

Salamander91 · 04/01/2022 16:31

We posted 4 on Thursday. Had one result on saturday at midnight, one this morning and still waiting on two. Annoyingly the ones we are waiting on are the kids so they couldnt go back to school today.

LazyMareofEastown · 05/01/2022 06:43

Woke up this morning to my result. Positive.

Bloody hell. Glad I didn't take work's advice to go in based on my negative LFT 😮.

OP posts:
PheasantsNest · 05/01/2022 07:13

Royal Mail have worked EVERY day apart from Christmas Day.

LazyMareofEastown · 05/01/2022 08:54

I have a question.

Does the advice on ending isolation on day 7 after 2 x negative lfts within 24 hours still apply if the person is still unwell/symptomatic?

If I were to get another negative LFT today I could go back in to work tomorrow but I still feel shocking (cough, chesty and diarrhoea). Seems unwise 😟.

Giveaschitt · 05/01/2022 10:33

Just treat it like you would any other illness? If you're too ill to go to work, call in sick.

AnyFucker · 05/01/2022 10:37

If you are still symptomatic you should not go in work
