Given lack of LFT, when would stop testing after close contact?

Visited family on Thursday and just after we got there someone had a positive test result.

Given there arent many LFT tests about, we tested on day two after contact but I cant get hold of LFT to test endlessly. We are a family of six. There is no way right now to get lft as I keep checking the Gov website.

I'm inclined to test tomorrow and that's it. I want to keep tests to see my elderly mum.

I would test with another 4-5 day gap and maybe get a PCR depending on just how much time you spent with them. If you were in the same room, with no ventilation for an hour then definitely get a PCR. But if it was barely any time then I’d just LFT and pcr if I got symptoms. (Not the three nonsense government ones but cold symptoms).

Best you can do.

I'd wait and test on Tuesday or Wednesday as it should definitely show up by then if you are positive. Can you avoid seeing people tomorrow and then test Tuesday?

WhiteJellycat · 02/01/2022 12:27

We was with them for about 30 minutes before the found out. Not really worthy of a PCR I dont think unless we start to feel unwell.

I was thinking day five or six. Shame there isnt more LFTs as I would have tested day two, four and six ideally. But that's 18 tests we dont have access to.

I would leave it tomorrow then and test on Tuesday morning before you go out.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 02/01/2022 12:41

I ordered a pack of lfts about 5 minutes ago online. Keep trying a few times a day. I’ve been told mornings are best but obviously ignored that myself as I only remembered after 12.30pm to check.

If you're not going anywhere then pointless testing. Test before going back to school/work on Tuesday but be aware you can still test positive 10 days after so I'd avoid visiting elderly relative until after 10 days and testing negative. Keep checking website for tests they update throughout the day.

I would test only if symptomatic

Watapalava · 02/01/2022 13:14

i wouldn't test at all

Koalaleia · 02/01/2022 13:24

I ordered some from the website today too. Keep checking
