Is coughing still a main symptom of omicron?

My 3 year old has woken up with a cough tonight, no other symptoms that I can see or hear so far. No temperature.
I guess I need to try and get a test for him? I haven’t heard of a cough being a main symptom of the new variant, anecdotally I mean.

We barely had a cough last time but this time have had very dry coughs.

For us all 5 of us had headaches, tiredness and sore throats as the first symptoms closely followed by runny nose. The adults have also been achey and coughing quite a bit but that started later. I'm coughing quite a lot but am asthmatic which doesnt help. Fairly sure we have Omicron due to it being so prevalent and spread from eldest child to all 5 of us within 3 days! Fast.

Yes, to add headaches, tiredness, and sore throat did occur for us first and then cough maybe 2nd day. We caught it from our friends - we had symptoms within 2.5 - 3 days - so yes, very quick for us too!

Yes dry cough was one of the first symptoms, not persistent though…headache and aching bones. Also sore lower back strangely.

Yes he either needs a PCR or to isolate for 10 days. It’s a pretty shit choice but it’s what we need to do.

No cough for me, just very runny nose, fatigue, aches and chills. I think the problem is it presents a bit differently in different people. Schools still definitely look out for coughs, probably still worth testing just in case.

NeilTheBaby12 · 01/01/2022 09:15

My family have it at the moment and were all presenting very differently. Not sure if weve got Delta or Omicron.

I've had an awful persistent dry cough for a few days which has left me so so sore! I had fever for a couple of days and now on day 4 I have a sore throat and blocked nose.

MIL - severe body aches, hot flushes, headache, milk cough

SIL - headache lasting three days, sleeping 20hrs a day, full of cold.

Yes… I tried to speak to my best friend for NY and she could barely talk for coughing. Poor thing is exhausted. That is pretty much the only symptom. That and a sore throat as a result of coughing.

HalloHello · 01/01/2022 09:20

I would be waiting until morning and see if he's still coughing? My daughter occasionally wakes up coughing in the night but it doesn't last until morning.

PrivateHall · 01/01/2022 09:20

Check your guidance for your local area as you don't say where you live. Under fives in NI for example no longer require a PCR for symptoms, just a LFT (then PCR if LFT+) (weird, I know!).

The only symptom DD and DGS had recently with Covid were very dry coughs

Pinkchicken85 · 01/01/2022 09:23

Four people I know have had it. Started with a tickly throat, progressed to slight headaches and a slight dry cough. tired ans sweaty mostly around day 3/4. Symptoms lasted 5/6 days Max.

SmallestInTheClass · 01/01/2022 12:36

Yes, cough was my DD's first symptom just over a week ago. Followed by a sinusy headache.
