I've just received someone else's covid test result?

I've just had an NHS text with someone else's PCR result. Should I do anything, contact NHS and tell them their mistake somehow?

I'm not waiting for a result myself, but have done a few so they certainly have my number registered attached to my and my dc names.

I'm guessing this person just entered their number wrong when they booked the test.

Contact them, that's a massive error

NothingIsWrong · 31/12/2021 21:19

I assume whoever it's for just put the wrong number in. If they've given that number for results, I can't see it as a data breach that the NHS sent the results to the number they were asked to send it to...

Wishiwasrunning2 · 31/12/2021 21:19

I contacted them when someone else's information appeared in my NHS app, they did nothing about it but disable my access for four months which was really unhelpful when I needed to use the app to access work events.

They did nothing about the data breach, I reported to ICO. They also did nothing.

I'm hoping the person also entered an email address so they'll get their result one way at least. I don't even know how to contact them and certainly don't want my own app or registration to be negatively affected. Argh.

This is not the NHSs fault - you are asked to put in the number you want the result sent to - clearly someone has put it in wrong. You are asked to type it twice and cannot autofill or paste so it is actually quite a hard mistake to make. They do not check this number against your records as it needs to be your current up to date number.

I had this. Whoever it was tested positive and I was hounded by track and trace, who I told multiple times that they had the wrong number but they kept on calling and texting. In the end I ignored the calls

My DD did a walk-in test Thursday morning - the person doing the test entered the contact no., so could easily have put it in wrong, although DD said she checked it with her.

They didn’t even ask for an email address, so we are relying on the number being correct to get result (still not here, hope Op hasn’t got it 🤣)

@BertiesShoes unless your DD has a man's name no 😂

OP This has just happened to me. I am awaiting my daughter's PCR result but have received a text with someone else's name on it.

If that person had accidentally entered my telephone number then it seems a big coincidence that he/she has entered the phone number of someone who is also awaiting their result. I think it's more likely that our data has been mixed up.

Call 119 and let them know, or wait for them to call you.

I've tried but after going through all the options the recording message says they are busy, please hang up. No queuing system. (?)
PJPatrol · 01/01/2022 10:52

I'm sure they'll call me at some point though.
