Did anyone have leg cramps as a Covid symptom?

DH and I had Covid before Christmas. He had no symptoms at all, we wouldn't have known if he hadn't needed a clear PCR in order to catch a flight. I had only a mild cold type of symptoms. But we both had two nights in a row with really persistent leg cramps and I was wondering if that was a coincidence or a Covid symptom. Leg cramps are not that unusual for me, although they are more frequent in the summer when I'm likely to be dehydrated. DH never really gets cramps, so it's quite unusual for him.

I had terrible restless legs and weird cramping of all lots of different muscles. There was a thread recently about restless legs and Covid so guessing it is relatively common.

RoseRedRoseBlue · 31/12/2021 20:31

@BigotSpigot me too, it was horrible. Lasted for a week.

Yes! Tested positive today and my legs are in agony! It's the worst symptom!

dooooooo1234 · 31/12/2021 20:34

Both me and my daughter had really sore legs early on before we tested. It woke her in the night and made her cry and I found it very painful. Not cramp though just really achey.

OldWivesTale · 31/12/2021 20:42

Interesting. My dd 16 has been waking for the last 4 nights with leg ache. Never had it before. Both legs aching and keeping her awake. I just thought that it was because she's been lounging about I'm bed too much. Never even thought of covid as no other symptoms.

They were particularly annoying cramps too as they were in the calf muscle and across the front of the ankle in both legs. So I couldn't stretch it out the way that you can with a cramp in just one place. If I stretched the calf muscle then the cramp across the front of the ankle got worse and vice versa. So I ended up hobbling around trying to walk it off in the early hours of the morning when I would have much rather been sleeping.

Dp got covid and a few days later I had the most hideous leg cramps and feeling a bit meh - nothing covid specific. as Dp had covid I was testing - both lft and pcr and at the point of having legs cramps I was negative. But a few days later I was positive. It was very weird though so I reckon I could have possibly had it before the tests picked it up.

I can only assume it was an early sign of covid because my legs were awfully painful. Only lasted a day or two.

Yes, I had this. I also had a horrible cramping pain sensation in my legs like elephants were stamping over them. Was awful and pain medication didn’t touch it. I got it on and off for several days when I was at my worst.
Hope you feel better soon Flowers

LittleGreyFluffyCat · 31/12/2021 22:03

I had a weird crampy feeling in my left thigh. It then went painful when I walked upstairs. Lasted 2-3 days.

QueenofLouisiana · 31/12/2021 22:04

DH did, he was awake for a few hours each night over 4 or 5 nights.
I had red hot ants running up and down my leg veins. Also for several nights.

I am currently going through my second bout with CoVid. I am 68 years old, fully vaxxed and had two boosters. The other night I had severe cramps across the top portion of my feet where it connects to my legs. This occurred every hour, and my toes would also curl under, so I had a hard time standing up to even try walking. Whenever I have had leg cramps, I take mustard, and the cramps disappear within a minute. But these took longer to respond. Extremely painful, and in both legs. I'm so glad to read these responses and know that I'm not the only person with these symptoms. I've also had a lot of nasal congestion, but so far it has not gone into my chest, as it did the first time I had CoVid. My temperature has never gotten higher than 98.5, and generally hovers around 97. In my first bout with CoVid, it went above 99 degrees a few times. I also had a terrible cough. This time, my sore throat lasted only a day. I have been positive for a week. I am so grateful, because I know without the vaccine and boosters, my symptons could be a lot worse.

Mydoghealsmyheart · 02/09/2022 12:08

I had this as well. It was really awful pain, aching and nothing helped. I was literally despairing of the feeling and it went on for almost two weeks.

raindon · 02/09/2022 16:30

Yes. And I also had a milder form when I had the moderna jab.

TulipTuesday · 02/09/2022 16:33

I had awful leg cramps after my 1st vaccine

EllaPaella · 02/09/2022 17:57

Yes I had leg cramps/discomfort like muscles aching up my thighs and buttocks for about ten days the first time I had covid.

Poppyliveshere · 03/09/2022 21:21

Yes!! Had Covid for first time July just gone, and although better otherwise, I STILL have leg and foot shooting pains. Some sort of left over neuropathy I guess as that was one of the main symptoms for me. Wish it would clear up as it’s been 7 weeks now 😏

Caroffee · 03/09/2022 21:31

I had very stiff lower leg muscles for two months. It was actually my first Covid symptom. Thankfully the stiffness finally went away one month ago. Such a strange illness.

tonicwaters · 03/09/2022 21:38

I get horrible leg and instep cramp where the toes curl under also, but it's not covid related. Strange that I get them after a long walk, you would think the opposite would be the case!

Anyway, for those who might want to try it, there is a magnesium cream in a pump bottle from H+B. I do leg stretches most nights (when I think of it) and lather on the magnesium cream. It works great for me as a preventative. If I forget to stretch etc. and I get cramp I massage the whole leg front, back and instep and toes with the cream and I find it very good.

Just a tip for those in agony!
