Anyone had a serious dose of covid and then got it again?

I was very ill with covid 4 months ago.
It was 4 months after 2nd vaccine at the time and had 3rd dose since. I felt pretty bulletproof once I recovered and I don't have any long covid but I am CEV.

I'd really like to know what to expect if I get it again.

Does severe illness give you greater future immunity?
Obv I had Delta so less protection against Omicron.

Hi OP,
Not an exact situation but similar. I had it very badly (hospitalised) after my first vaccine and am vulnerable with autoimmune conditions plus immunosupressed because of meds, so a double whammy.

The second time of having Covid, no-one would have known just by looking at me. I only tested because I felt slightly asthmatic one evening (which I have regardless) No temp, no breathlessness, nothing. In comparison to the first time where I couldn't even take 4 steps without speaking due to poor oxygen levels, I felt on top of the world and genuinely like nothing other than my usual pre-existing conditions existed.

I hope this helps reassure you. I do understand your concerns.

Ps: I had been boosted when I had Covid for the 2nd time.

I was an early adopter, getting long Covid back in March 2020. Been very nervous of reinfection since. My DH tested positive the week before Xmas with what I’d call flu-level covid. I caught it a few days later - I only knew because I was taking LFTs. My symptoms were really mild - slight scratchy throat, bit chesty, headachy and tired - and difficult to distinguish from symptoms of having to look after 3 small children including a 3 month old! I’m triple vaxxed (2x Pfizer plus Moderna booster). It’s a funny old virus - my DH largely escaped the original variant but was in bed for a week this time. He had the AZ vaccine and was due his booster the day after he got sick.

@DottyBabe That's reassuring. I am immunosuppressed and was hospitalised in August and pretty ill for a couple of months.
@Aozora13 I guess you had the original Wuhan strain then Omicron. How is your long covid now?

From my experience there was no correlation between severe illness and long covid as I fully recovered, in fact, bizarrely, my asthma has improved since covid

Yeah I’m assuming it was the original strain and then omicron this time - am in London where it’s rife! I was pretty poorly first time round - not hospitalised but off work for months and took a long time before I got breathlessness under control. I’ve been 90-95% recovered for about a year - was worried this latest infection would trigger a relapse but seem to be doing ok.

Yes in the sense that when I got COVID in March 2020 I was ill for weeks and got long COVID (wasnt hospitalized though). Got it again last Christmas- much milder and more like a bad cold that the huge variety of horrible symptoms I got the first time. Am now vaccinated and boosted and have just spent 10 days cooped up with positive ds2 without (fingers crossed) catching it, which seems something like a miracle.

My dd had it in early October and was ill for a few weeks and now she’s got it again. I feel awful as she caught it from me.

She was the only one of us who caught it in October and now she’s got it again. I thought she would have had some immunity from it. I’m so sad for her.

I had Covid the first time in April 20. I had it quite badly and was hospitalised (not ICU) and developed Long Covid which lasted around a year.

I have caught it again this Christmas. It is milder but still a nasty illness. I've been mainly in bed feeling awful. The fatigue is dreadful. I am really worried this is going to be a long illness again and may even lead to Long Covid again. But as I say I am definitely not as ill as last time.
