Has anyone found they have stopped liking certain foods since having Coronavirus?

Or is it just me? I lost my appetite quite significantly when I was ill with it, but only for about 4-5 days. I didn't really lose my sense of taste at all, only lost my sense of smell slightly for a couple of days. I've been largely recovered for several days, although I'm still quite tired & have a touch of a cough.

But, I've completely gone off certain foods. Namely, crisps, & chocolate. Two of my favourite things. Sad Before covid I could put away extraordinary amounts of them given the chance, but now I find them really unpleasant. Obviously this will be good for my health. But I was just wondering if anyone else has had similar. I can barely cope with being in the same room as DH or DD while they are eating crisps, it's the crunching... I want them but equally I find them repellent now.

I've not gone off anything else, & everything else tastes pretty much normal. And it's not getting better. Is it normal? Am I doomed to a lifetime of no crisps or chocolate?

I feel the same since having my booster which is really weird.

Tinysnickers · 31/12/2021 00:38

Yeah. I lost taste and smell. They have come back but coffee doesn't taste the same any more. I have a fancy machine and drank 2-3 daily. Now I can go without and not notice. Makes me sad. Not sure it will return to normal now as its been almost 3 months.

Eggs! Boiled, fried or poached all have the same disgusting chemical taste. At first I thought I had a box that had all gone bad, but no. All eggs taste disgusting to me now unless scrambled with a bit of cream amd butter, which I can only have occasionally unless I want to be the shape of an egg! They were a big part of my diet so I am genuinely gutted 😢

Minkymandy · 31/12/2021 00:50

The thought of chocolate makes me feel sick. Not a bad thing I suppose 😫

shivermetimbers77 · 31/12/2021 00:54

Yes, me too with the eggs! I had a boiled egg today and was convinced it must be off.. it wasn’t , it just tasted awful to me. Inky.

Dontlickthetrolley · 31/12/2021 01:01

Chocolate and diet coke here, but battling through and will power, after 4 weeks all was good in the world again 🤣

UndertheCedartree · 31/12/2021 01:31

I'm off almost everything right now. Managed a bit of mango today.

AnotherMansCause · 01/01/2022 16:32

Ooh mango! Fruit has been fine thankfully, & I got mangoes the other day, I'll have some later, yum. It's mostly just very processed foods that taste odd, & chocolate & crisps in particular that are really unappealing. I've been vegan for the last few months so I've been using oat milk & almond milk, they taste distinctly odd too, they didn't before. I'm really hoping it goes back to normal soon.

It's a bit like pregnancy cravings in reverse. Certain foods don't taste vastly different but at the same time they taste inexplicably awful & I don't want to eat them. I don't think I'll bother battling through with the crisps & chocolate. I'm sure they're responsible for a good portion of my excess weight... silver linings Grin

I've had less of an appetite generally, which is a pain because I have to really eat to maintain weight.

DP has totally gone off meat and dairy. He's lost about 6kg, though partly because of his ten days thinking time, he's gone on a midlife crisis fitness rampage

Lemons1571 · 01/01/2022 16:36

Yes! I was addicted to sponge cake and sweet things, but now they don’t do anything for me at all. I now fancy ready salted crisps.

The balance of taste has also changed and is distorted. I can strongly taste one ingredient in a meal (eg the onion in a chilli) but the rest of it is muted/mild.

ZaZathecat · 01/01/2022 16:40

Yep, nothing tastes fabulous to me anymore, and I used to love Crimbles but now they taste like gritty grease to me!

BlackandJello · 01/01/2022 17:21

My 9 year old DD will no longer eat any kind of potato, particularly chips. Which were her favourite before covid.

And cheese!! This is a child who's diet consisted of cheese on a daily basis. I honestly never thought she would go off cheese.

Autumnalblooms · 01/01/2022 17:27

My appetite is shot .I have actually lost weight while I had covid recently which I didn't want to do .I can eat small meals, say a really small plate but nothing like I could eat before .I am actually starting to worry that I am actually going to get my appetite back as am an active person and I don't want to keep losing weight .

beaverbill · 01/01/2022 17:28

Oh my goodness…eggs here too! I ate them at least 4 times a week before having covid. They taste disgusting now, I too am gutted @shivermetimbers77.
I also hate the smell of so many things, my usual fabric conditioner turns my stomach as does shampoo and conditioner.
I had covid at the end of July so assumed all would be back to normal by now but apparently not!

GetTheGoodLookingGuy · 01/01/2022 17:31

My mum had covid last December and went right off tomatoes for months.

BelleNoir · 01/01/2022 17:43

I'd never connected this but since having my booster I no longer crave or enjoy chocolate

adagio · 01/01/2022 17:51

Milk (in tea). I went right off all dairy a year or so ago and never got back to normal. I used to love tea! Switched to black coffee.

StormBaby · 01/01/2022 17:54

I completely lost all my sense of taste and smell. It was awful. Food all tasted like gruel, it heightened all the awful textures. I especially found pasta gross, just a sticky nothingness. I’m now on day 15 and it’s just coming back, ish.

FrangipaniBlue · 01/01/2022 22:54

Yep.

I made myself one of my favourite dishes (poached eggs & avocado) to cheer myself up in the midst of feeling shitty. Because I couldn't taste it the mushy texture ended up making my nausea worse.

I now can't face the thought of it anymore Sad

Temporaryanonymity · 01/01/2022 23:05

Pesto! I can’t stomach it at all. It just tastes off and usually I love it.

HenryHiggins · 01/01/2022 23:11

Milk in tea tastes off.. even though it’s in date and according to my family it’s not off, it’s fine.
But to me it’s off. So tea isn’t enjoyable any more 😬

Sonata13 · 01/01/2022 23:16

My favourite chocolate buttons now taste like bland plastic. I thought maybe the recipe had changed.

Choccymumma · 01/01/2022 23:21

Weirdly, I've got a heightened taste of salt!

DigitalGhost · 01/01/2022 23:21

Loads of things but mainly peppers & cucumbers. Used to love them and now they just taste off. Been 19 month now Sad

Nightmanagerfan · 01/01/2022 23:22

I had Covid in March 2020 and lost my taste ans smell. Both returned but I was left with paranosmia, and the following foods tasted disgusting: anything with onion, garlic, eggs (especially the yolk), soy sauce, curry, coffee, most meat especially beef… I could go on. Things improved gradually, but I still don’t love onion in anything, particularly onion in crisp flavours or raw. I know someone who can still only taste lemon over a year later, so I don’t feel too hard done by.
