COVID vaccine worst one I've had!

Veeveeoxox · 30/12/2021 21:38

A question I'm not an antivaxxer , I've just had my booster today. I have the flu jab every year , Hep B , every jab I've been given I take it and not had any ill effects but the COVID jab is something else. My first one I got a big red rash and the skin went all leathery , my second one I felt like death warmed up and this one my arm feels so sore and I have a massive head ache . Can anyone with knowledge tell me why the jab makes me feel so poorly compared to any other vaccine I've had ?

No idea I have been fine with all three jabs - 2 Astra zenecas and 1 pfizer - I am early 50’s

Veeveeoxox · 30/12/2021 21:41

I had Moderna for all 3 jabs

Some vaccines do, I was very ill with typhoid and cholera one many years ago. I think the flu one can make some feel quite ill

Meredusoleil · 30/12/2021 21:56

I think I read that the Moderna booster is a live vaccine although only half a full dose. Maybe that's why? It does seem like people are having more side effects with this one compared to the Pfizer booster.

I had AZ x2 then Pfizer last week and was best with Pfizer ironically. The first AZ was the worst for me...awful headache for about a week afterwards.

None of the vaccines use din the UK are live vaccines. The moderna one is very similar to Pfizer. Yes, the booster dose of Moderna is half the original dose.

KiloWhat · 30/12/2021 22:04

Maybe coz Covid is like reaaally bad? Good question though. I had a flu jab this year and the side effects were basically like mini flu I felt so bad

KiloWhat · 30/12/2021 22:05

Fair enough. Must have heard wrong.

I too usually get evry jab available. Always pay for the flu jab in September every year too. Didn't have any side effects from this year's one. Usually have a dead arm for about 2 weeks afterwards 🙄

Peachi82 · 30/12/2021 22:31

Moderna is a little bit more than the double concentration compared to Pfizer.
The Moderna booster is half of a full dose and is therefore still a little bit more concentrated than Pfizer.
None of them are live vaccines, they are both rna.

I had 2x Moderna and 1x Pfizer and Pfizer was a walk in the park compared to Moderna.
By boyfriend didn't have a strong reaction to either of them.

KiloWhat · 30/12/2021 23:31

Why is the moderna twice as strong?

Cookerhood · 31/12/2021 03:02

Moderna contains 100 micrograms of mRNA whereas Pfizer contains 30 micrograms. The Moderna booster is 50 micrograms off mRNA. This may be why Moderna appears to be slightly more effective but also why there appear (anecdotally at least, I'm not sure about published data, I haven't checked) to be more side effects reported with Moderna.

Northsoutheastwest76 · 31/12/2021 05:30

Had two AZ. First one felt tired and headachy etc for 24 hours. 2nd AZ nothing. Moderna booster just a sore arm which was similar to the sore arm experienced with flu jab..
Guess everyone is different.

UserError012345 · 31/12/2021 05:46

AZ dose 1 really knocked me about. I couldn't move for 24 hours. I can't remember the last time I was that ill.

AZ dose 2 - fine.

Waiting for booster.

Oddbutnotodd · 31/12/2021 05:51

2 AZ then Moderna. Only side effect was a slightly sore arm after the booster.

Ethelswith · 31/12/2021 05:54

Bad luck.

My most extreme reaction, by miles, is to typhoid jabs.

This is identical experience to DH who had the A-Z.

I had Phyzer and just had a sore arm for the 1st two jabs and then could hardly feel anything with the booster.

MushroomHunter · 31/12/2021 06:01

Hi, I’ve been up all night with sore muscles, sweats, sore head and just feeling pretty poor. Had the moderna booster yesterday morning, no side effects with the others. I don’t suffer well either so feeling pretty sorry forgot myself.

Are you all up early with the booster side effects or shift work?

autieok · 31/12/2021 06:03

Az for first two. Felt awful for 24 hours after 1st jab. Like a terrible flu. 2nd jab fine. Phizer (sp?) for 3rd one just a sore arm.

UncomfortableSilence · 31/12/2021 07:01

I had AZ for the first two and was so poorly after the first, not as bad after the second. Had Pfizer booster yesterday, my arm started hurting within hours, I can barely move it now and I feel awful, aching all over and nauseous.

The pain in my back and hips feels very similar to when I had Covid last Christmas, feeling very sorry for myself.

CrunchyCarrot · 31/12/2021 07:07

Perhaps it's the adjuvant - PEG. Just a stab in the dark, though.

Tumbleweed101 · 31/12/2021 10:26

Had AZ first two and moderna booster. Had a similar reaction to the booster as to first AZ - sore arm, tired and fuzzy headed. Reaction lasted longer to booster and arm was itchy for ages and still is now and then. However I did have a flu vaccine same week as booster (never had flu jab before although in other arm). I’ve been having frequent headaches since the jabs too.

shouldistop · 31/12/2021 10:31

I had my booster yesterday. Had an upset stomach last night and woke up at 3am with sweats and aching muscles. Better today, just a bit tired.

Felt rough after my first dose too, fine after my second.

All 3 were pfizer.
