Nasty debilitating flu but negative test

Is this going around? We have all had it and thought for certain it must be Omicron, but PCRs finally came back ( v late) and negative. I am completely wiped out though and could barely stand up this week.
I have had the flu before but not like this.

OP there's nothing "just" about flu. I had a bad bout years ago and thought I was dying.
By contrast, many just experience omicron as a cold.

My daughter got a positive LFT on Christmas Day, the rest of us have all got symptoms but didn’t get positive LFTs till day 5/6 or not at all. PCRs are coming back positive.

Yep… I had the “Supercold” in early December. Completely floored me!! Needed up with sinusitis and on antibiotics. Then I caught Covid straight afterwards! (Not v nice but not as bad as the supercold).

My 12 year old daughter had similar a week before Christmas- high temp & sore throat (then ear ache sickness & cough with viral rash as well) She pretty much stayed in bed for 4 days (unheard of in this house!) PCR negative. Doctor who we spoke to due to her very high temperature said it was viral - the usual winter bugs. I pretty much slept in her bed or was cuddling her and no one in the house came down with it. She is better now but still gets tired easily.

We are all fine now; thanks everyone for asking. Did yet more LFTs and still negative. Two of us are triple vaxxed and one is double vaxxed. Maybe it was just bad flu. ( we have had flu shots too).

‘I can’t believe it’s just flu’ - have you ever had actual flu?! Not a nasty cold but actual flu?! It’s the worst thing I’ve ever experienced. You could have put £10,000 at the door of my bedroom and i’d have been too poorly to go get it. It was hideous, I ended up in hospital.

There are loads of other illness in winter. These boards are SO frustrating ‘it must be covid’ despite multiple negative tests. NO. It’s just a shitty virus as there have always been in winter. I think we’ve all forgotten that they exist or what they feel like! 🤦🏼‍♀️

It does sound like it was flu. As others have said one of the issues with just flu is that flu isn’t just flu! Viruses can be nasty nasty creatures and Covid is no different just has the ability to affect an awful lot of people at the same time. Flu pandemics could be equally bad or potentially worse
