So borris has said the only way to protect your self against omicron is to have the booster well I only had my second jab in October and not due a booster yet? So dose this mean I'm not protected against omicron?

My anxiety is so bad

The best thing to do is get the booster as soon as you are able.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 30/12/2021 15:54

I haven't had the booster and won't be getting it just yet. Unless you are CEV (presumably you are not otherwise you would have already had a booster) I really wouldn't worry, Omicron seems to be milder than Delta. I caught Delta while single vaccinated and it was no worse than a cold.

CheeseCakeSunflowers · 30/12/2021 16:00

I'm no expert but my understanding is that the protection from the initial course of 2 vaccinations begins to wear off after 12 weeks, as the name suggests the booster then boosts it back up so I think you are currently protected.

Well the majority of people catching omicron seem to be the people that have had the boosters..I'm certainly not rushing to have one Hmm

I'm double jabbed. Had first dose in Feb and second in May. I had booster booked for early December but we all got covid so rescheduled for early jan.

I don't know for sure if I had omicron, symptoms and timings would suggest we did.

For me, it was just cold like with pretty bad sinus pain. I had no fever, didn't really feel ill, slight cough and normal energy levels. Tbh I've probably had worse colds.

I was worried as it had been 7 months or so since second dose (Astra Zeneca) but I was fine.

If you only had your second dose in October, I'd assume you are still well protected from that!

Dp was similar. He added Pfizer in May & August. His symptoms were very mild.

Where do you get that info from?
Potatodrivers · 30/12/2021 17:33

Its the mildest variant yet, so I think that is probably aimed at those more vulnerable.

Dontlickthetrolley · 30/12/2021 17:37

I tested positive 6 months and 3 days after my second jab. Only became eligible for the booster 2 weeks ago having to wait 28 days. However, having heard so many feel poorly after the booster decided I didnt have time to be sick before Christmas so booked in for next week and hoping that my new antibodies are doing their job!!

You’ve had your second vaccine quite recently compared to most of us that are eligible for boosters.

Lots of the breakthrough infections will be due to waning of the protection from the first two jabs and you’ve not long had yours. That will help. Flowers

Me, dp and DD (2yo) just had covid, just coming out of isolation no and we were due to have boosters this week, and I honestly don't see the point now. Its been really mild, a hacking cough and runny nose. I've had worse hay-fever and coughs.
I've been a big advocate for the vaccines, I've even volunteered to help, but it's been so mild and all these rumoured restrictions and scare mongering seems pointless.
