What on Earth is going on with LFTs?

Partner now on day 12 of testing positive on LFTs yet 3 NEGATIVE PCRs.
Line strength started off very faint day 1 and gradually got darker until about day 6/7- yesterday he was negative, then today the line is fairly strong again (day 12)

He’s had a slight cold (literally for about 3 days out of the 12)
I just don’t understand what the hell is going on? People keep telling us to stop testing now as he’d be out of isolation anyway but if anything I’m just really intrigued.

Could he have some sort mutation of covid that’s triggering the LFTs but not the PCRs?

@Feather12

Why would he even consider going to visit them after even one positive test? What a waste of tests. Just quarantine to keep everyone safe.
What do you mean? He’s had 3 negative PCRs from day 3 - as advised when ringing 119 they tell you to ignore the LFTs and go with the PCR! We didn’t do that. We want to make sure that the LFTs are totally negative before mixing with our vulnerable family members

@elelel

Are they flowflex?
Yes. He’s been totally negative from day 1 on the orient gene brand.

It's the tests. There are a couple of threads on here with people also getting positives on these tests but negative on other brand literal flow and PCRs.

Wasn’t he told not to test again for 90 days as it skews results? (Sorry I’d this is now out for date, it’s what we were told in November and I appreciate stuff changes every bloody second)

Such a waste. As he had cold symptoms he would surely avoid your vulnerable relatives anyway covid or not . Twice a week is recommended and PCR to follow up. Maybe he should've followed guidelines

I don’t understand why he’s taken 3 PCRs in such a short period of time, let alone why he’s using so many LFTs

Symptoms = start isolating
Positive PCR = continue isolating for 10 days in most of the UK. Boris has said something slightly different in England but nowhere have I seen any advice to keep taking PCRs within a short space of having. A positive - in fact the last thing that I read was that it’s not advised to take another for 90 days.

Your DH has vulnerable relatives? Would a negative lateral flow really make any difference if he’s just tested positive? Keep,isolating for 10 days, or until 48 hours after cessation of the symptoms (if that is longer than 10 days).

Your justification is hard to understand and even wasting a couple of tests is irresponsible.

Are people really doing this? I had positive lft and inconclusive pcr. Still isolated for 10 days as it was at the time as I had symptoms and also knew I'd caught it off my friend

After 10 days I just got on with my life like everyone else I know who's had it . No wonder people can't get hold of lfts

I wish they would just make a simple graphic that explained what I need to do re testing and when. There's too much out there now.
