Stop overusing lateral flow tests!

How many posts on this forum say "ooh I tested twice yesterday", or "ooh I'm waiting for a pcr result but still taking a lateral flow every day"...

Have some fucking thought for the expense to the taxpayer of all these tests, and the poor folk who are struggling to get a supply of tests to keep their loved ones safe while you fritter them away without a second thought.

You DON'T need to take more than one test a day, you DON'T need to keep testing while waiting a pcr result (you should be isolating) and you DON'T need to be testing every day unless you're a close contact.

Over consumption is killing this planet, these are prime examples.

So your happy to send your teen to school, let them spread it to the staff so the school is then understaffed sending your child home anyway. I’m sure the other parents will love you

advicenotsure · 31/12/2021 16:07

Everything you've listed is for your own selfish gain.

You won't people to stop texting so you can grab a box? They're really not that hard to come by. Just to piss you off a little bit more I've managed to order 3 boxes in the last 3 days. We need them for work and we've been a close contact. Not that anyone needs to explain to you because you're do as I say not as I do.

Testing*

Nomorecoco · 31/12/2021 16:20

Thanks for the reminder, I've just used 3 boxes on my cat.

Watapalava · 31/12/2021 16:32

Maybe the teachers should get some common sense and stop testing too. There's already talk today of stopping asymptomatic testing full stop and the sooner it comes the better. Its the isolations ruining kids education.

LondonQueen · 31/12/2021 16:43

Yawn, who made you the lateral flow police?

Qwertykeys · 31/12/2021 16:46

Great idea , teachers won’t test very good idea that’s me not able to go into work. Maybe parents need common sense and stop sending sick children to school. While the isolation rules are in place should your teenager with mild symptoms pass it on that person has to isolate. Be it the teacher, bus driver , dinner lady , shop assistant having a huge knock on affect

No PCR tests available today in my area, one friend queued for two and half hours yesterday for a pre-booked appointment with her whole family in the car. I'm a close contact to them so I'll carry on with my daily LFT's thanks.

lljkk · 31/12/2021 17:08

I've seen ppl on Twitter saying how they are routinely testing 2x/day.
They don't work with vulnerable ppl
They like to show off 5+ negative tests followed by a (very weak not confirmed by PCR) positive to justify their testing mania

We booked PCRs after hours refreshing the website (initially none were available) . The test centre was ridiculously poorly/not properly signposted which entailed a massive detour and we arrived 5 min after they had packed up....so now having to go through the process of trying to book again when it repeatedly shows none available!!
One person in the household is negative and will keep testing with lfts.

Did you find the cat was cooperative? My goldfish seems to forget what we are trying to do each time we test it agian.

I haven't used too many at all MEEEEOOOOOWWWWWW!

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 01/01/2022 21:30

I only if I have symptoms, or if meeting up with a group or at someone's house etc.

Frankly, half the country seem to have it at the moment anyway so can't help but think why bother?!

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 01/01/2022 21:32

@Watapalava

Vulnerable people are really not that vulnerable once jabbed. The data confirms this. The whole point of jabs is to protect against serous disease and they've been proven to work yet vulnerable people are still not satisfied. The rest of the population shouldn't be inconvenienced because people are paranoid and cant assess risk - what are they going to do when covid legal isolation ends? Which is defo will!
Exactly. It will, and frankly it should!

You're not supposed to do an LFT if you have symptoms, you're supposed to do a PCR
SonicBroom · 02/01/2022 23:57

@EmmaGrundyForPM I just had a thought. I had delta in dec, if I now get symptoms of omicron I can’t actually PCR can I? So I have to LFT… and given numbers in November / December there must be hundreds of thousands of people in my position

SonicBroom · 03/01/2022 00:26

Actually I just saw it says “ You should not use this service if you’ve received a positive PCR test result in the last 90 days, unless you get any new COVID-19 symptoms.”

I’m not sure about that’s especially helpful is it

ThirdTimeIucky · 06/01/2022 22:52

I was one of your wasteful testing twice per day people. Negative at 8 in the morning, but had been testing at least once per day as knew I'd been in contact with a positive result. Did another just before leaving to see family at about 11.30 the same morning. Big fat positive. I'm so glad I had tested again. And I have to say. I'd rather people were more cautious than less. Everyone has their own reasons for being cautious or testing regularly, and I'm sure they don't all tell you what those reasons are.
