Do they tell you if it's Omicron? And do T&T still call?

I've been for a PCR today after getting a positive LF.
I tested due to really awful back and head pains which I've since seen can be Omicron symptoms.
Do they tell you If it's Omicron? If so do they do that via text/email?
Do test and trace still call when you get a positive?
Sorry for the questions

My household are all currently isolating (towards the end of isolation period now), and based on symptoms etc I suspect we have omicron. None of us have had any messages etc about whether we have omicron or some other variant. We did have a text from T&T with a link to complete with where we've been/close contacts etc and this said that if we didn't complete it we would get a phone call. We have all several texts reminding us of the general isolation advice

I hope they don't ring as much as they used to. DS1 had it in June and they called asking to speak to him every day, he's 7!!

DS2 had a positive lateral flow yesterday so we're all waiting for PCR results now 🙄

Twatforaneighbour · 28/12/2021 18:12

I got a call today from track and trace taking details of close contacts as toddler DD tested positive.

They didnt tell me if it was omicron, wish Id asked now!

Grumpysister · 28/12/2021 18:13

They call for under 18s only at the moment (at least that’s what the T&T person told me). Also weren’t told if it was Omicron (we were all non symptomatic so I suspect it was).

Cookerhood · 28/12/2021 18:13

They don't tell you now as they assume most cases are omicron. Many labs can't distinguish anyway unless the sample is sequenced.

PollyIndia · 28/12/2021 18:31

I think I’d you fill in the form mentioned above (link in the positive result message), they don’t call. That was my experience too. Thankfully never heard from them

Choccymumma · 28/12/2021 18:36

They seem to call for children and email for adults. I asked if my children had omicron, they said they didn't know.

Kaffiene · 28/12/2021 18:46

DH had a call today but we haven’t had one for DD (13) so complete opposite of everyone else

Chosenonesneakymincepie · 28/12/2021 18:50

Same as PP. Just an email to fill in and then a few reminder text messages. I think Omicron is pretty much dominant now. It's been very mild for me so presuming so.

Lemons1571 · 28/12/2021 19:41

Same for me too. Email with a link to tell them about contacts. Then a couple of texts. Nothing about which variant i have, but based on symptoms and location it’s likely omicron.

llm24 · 28/12/2021 19:43

Test and Protect in Scotland didn’t tell you if it was Omnicron as they didn’t know
The local Health Board would call you

Kara198 · 28/12/2021 22:49

Okay thanks all that's really helpful.
So relieved to hear I hopefully won't get a call. My 5yo tested positive back in October and they kept me on the phone for over an hour. And the only people that ended up getting notified by them were me and his dad 😆 not the school, his swimming school, his beavers leaders etc. Seemed like such a waste of time

T & T called today for DS (6yo). Took about 25 mins. They wanted to know who he has seen but didn’t actually ask for any personal info so they could contact them. A little pointless!

Kara198 · 29/12/2021 01:20

@Littlecaf it's so bizarre isn't it. I offered the contact details of his swimming teacher etc but she said "no it's fine we will find them". I told all relevant people anyway but when I checked back a few weeks later they all said they never got notified. Not surprised it spreads, although it's clear that seems to be what they're aiming for anyway

Yup so weird! They didn’t ask for details of anyone and the email sent didn’t have a link to fill in either which I was also expecting.
