She tested positive, now what does she need to do?

Hi, my mum went to the UK for xmas. She was due to return home via ferry today but tested positive. What does she do now? No one at the test centre seemed to know.

Does she have to isolate for 10 days, or can she book a PCR test in a couple of days and leave if its negative?

Does she have to register anywhere so she can have her isolation days "counted"?

Any info/links would be a big help as no one so far has been able to tell her what to do 🙄

Did she take a lateral flow or a pcr?

Muchtoomuchtodo · 28/12/2021 14:11

Has she tested positive on LFT or PCR?
Where in the UK is she (rules are different in England).

Muchtoomuchtodo · 28/12/2021 14:11

And where is she wanting to travel back to?

Palavah · 28/12/2021 14:15

All the above are relevant, but she needs to get a PCR if she hasn't already and isolate until she receives the results (if negative) or (if positive) for the requisite number of days based on the rules where she is.

She got a fit to fly test, I think it's an antigen one. She needs to travel back to France. She's in Southern England.

She needs to book a PCR with the NHS and isolate for 10 days.

If she tests negative on days 6 and 7 she can be released from her 10 day isolation.

Not sure what she needs to do after that regarding getting home however.

She thinks she got Covid a few days ago so should be negative in a couple of days - is she not allowed to simply isolate and take regular tests, then end her isolation once negative, even if it's in 3 days from now? Does she HAVE to do the full 6-7 possibly 10 days?

Yes, she does. Why should it be different for her from everyone else?
Palavah · 28/12/2021 20:27

Day 7 is the earliest she could get out and that's only if she's tested negative on days 6 AND 7, and with no symptoms.

dementedpixie · 28/12/2021 20:28

No she can't end isolation as early as 3 days from now. The earliest isolation can be ended is after 7 days and that's only if day 6 and day 7 tests are negative

Doesn't matter when she got it, her isolation will count from the positive test
Palavah · 28/12/2021 20:31

The day the positive test was taken is Day 0.

Ilikewinter · 28/12/2021 20:31

Im following out of interest more than anything else!.
Presume PCR test is positive and she isolates for 10 days, how then does she get back to France. Surely any other test taken will/could show a positive result still....does someone provide a post covid letter?? ...... no idea who by the way!

LIZS · 28/12/2021 20:40

She needs to isolate for up to 10 days, confirming now with pcr and lfts on day 6 and 7 from now which may release her early if negative. Does she need a negative fit to travel test to reenter France too? Does she have accommodation to isolate at ?

Just quickly popping on to say thank you for the responses, it all became a whirlwind and I forgot to come back to the thread. All is well now, she has finally made it back home!
