Is isolation still 10 days?

We have had covid over Christmas. I thought the new rules were that if we had two negative LFTs day 6 and 7 that we were free to go.
But I have just got texts from the government stating 'it's now a few days since your tests results...remember you must isolate for 10 days'. very clear. No mention of negative LFTs. So what do I do?
We were thinking of visiting family on day 8 (if negative)

I thought it's been reduced to 7 days (if negative ltf)

The US has just reduced the isolation period for Covid positives to 5 days.

There was an advert on my FB feed less than a minute ago saying it was now 7 days with negative tests recorded at day 6&7

EvilPea · 28/12/2021 12:19

Don’t hold your breath for those 7 day negatives. Seem to be hit and miss even within the same families. Yes, that is the gist out after two negatives 24hrs apart

LilyPond2 · 28/12/2021 12:19

I think it may depend whereabouts in the UK you are. I think the original reduction only applied to England.

Wales is still 10 days at the moment. Not sure about Scotland and Northern Ireland.
If you're in England, maybe they just haven't updated the text messages yet??

Oooh that’s interesting. I’ve always thought the first few days carry higher risk of transmission and thereafter it’s probably negligible.

Regarding the US:

"US health officials have halved the recommended isolation time for people with Covid-19 from 10 to five days

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) says most transmissions happen in the two days before and three days after symptoms develop."

@EvilPea I agree I am day 7 still testing positive so I won't be able to go back to work until the weekend .I am triple jabbed .

ThreeFeetTall · 28/12/2021 13:25

Thanks- I guess they haven't updated the text messages. We had all negatives today (day 6) but yes, I've heard of asymptotic cases testing positive until day 9 or 10.
