Would you PCR with these symptoms?

Adult - Terrible headache and sinus pain that won't be relieved with painkillers. Had a runny nose but now it's completely dry and hurting

Baby - runny nose, cough, assuming they feel terrible as very upset and wanting lots of cuddles

I want a PCR, MIL is ranting and raving that I don't need one because I don't have a cough?

FWIW I don't suffer with headaches or sinus pain and baby DS is only 4 months so I'm being cautious as he had bronchilitis at 2 months and that was incredibly traumatic for everyone so I would like to make sure we know what's going on

(I guess I'm after reassurance because MIL is making me out to be neurotic because I have health anxiety)

Well frankly its not of MILs business whether you choose to get a PCR or not! Have you been taking Lfts?

Imnotweirdimlimitededition1 · 28/12/2021 11:48

Severe headache which was not alleviated by paracetamol was my only symptom- take a PCR

April88 · 28/12/2021 11:48

I tested positive yesterday, only symptoms are a sore throat, headache and sinus pain

gymbunny2 · 28/12/2021 11:50

I would do LF test first although when daughter had the Delta variant she tested negative on LF tests for 2 days despite having sore throat, headache and runny nose ( slight cough) then we all contracted it 😢.

WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor · 28/12/2021 11:51

It’s nothing to do with MIL if you test. Just do it.

superram · 28/12/2021 11:55

Just get a test. My only symptom has been sinus pain.

Anawi · 28/12/2021 11:58

Headaches, sore throats and runny nose are what we all had first. 4 out of 5 of is positive on lateral flow, 1 confirmed pcr positive on Christmas day, the test of us going for PCR today. I've now started with a slight cough and OH and I are achey. I'd ignore the MIL and get tested personally.

evenflo3 · 28/12/2021 12:04

Me and DH tested positive with those symptoms alone...

tigger1001 · 28/12/2021 12:07

Why is the mil voicing an opinion here? It's nothing to do with her if you go for a pcr test.

LilyPond2 · 28/12/2021 12:16

Another vote for ignoring your MIL and getting a PCR.

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 28/12/2021 12:20

Ignore MIL get a PCR

MsFestiveReindeer · 28/12/2021 12:21

Take a PCR. Don't bother telling mil.

SmallestInTheClass · 28/12/2021 12:23

My DD has exactly that kind of headache as her main symptom.

RickyZooom · 28/12/2021 12:23

I’d get a PCR. Don’t bother with testing baby as she’ll just be isolating with you anyway if you have it!

NerrSnerr · 28/12/2021 12:24

Why is it anything to do with your MIL? Why have you even had the conversation with her? You do what you think is best for you and your family.

PrincessConsuelaBananahamm0ck · 28/12/2021 12:27

My daughter's first symptoms were burning nose and headache. And it's nothing to do with your mother in law. Follow your gut feeling and get a test.

334bu · 28/12/2021 12:31

Why is your MIL so upset ? What possible difference does it make to her for you to get a test? Weird behaviour.

maa32 · 28/12/2021 12:38

LFTs negative, I should've said. I do regular tests for work and my sister and mum are extremely vulnerable so I test before we see them

ProperVexed · 28/12/2021 12:39

I tested positive with a sore throat and blocked sinuses.

maa32 · 28/12/2021 12:40

Thanks for replies, PCR is booked. MIL is interfering and I stupidly asked her a question about baby DS symptoms because she is a NURSE to which the whole PCR topic came up Sad

My head is banging so I don't have the capacity to even argue with her I just said I'm taking baby DS for a drive to encourage a nap (which I kind of am, to the PCR test place...)

.

Would you PCR with these symptoms?
BrusselPout · 28/12/2021 12:56

That's from the Zoe study

Theunamedcat · 28/12/2021 13:00

You could have sinusitis (however you spell it ffs) are your cheeks sore? Swollen? So even if it's not covid your still sick steam your head to relieve it and there are youtube videos showing how to relieve pressure with massage which may help the baby

kerkyra · 28/12/2021 13:01

I had a positive pcr test this morning after taking four lft which were all negative.
Only symptoms are sore throat with sore glands, slight temperature and feeling dizzy/sick. No cough at all.

kerkyra · 28/12/2021 13:02

No cold symptoms either.
