I used bronchostop and strepsils throat and cough lozenges to good effect.

If you cannot get anyone to a shop for you then honey and lemon can help.

Joining in solidarity! Tested PCR positive this morning after a LFT on Boxing Day. My main symptoms are a raised temp and a dry throat and tickly cough. None of the usual “cold” symptoms so far. Such an annoying cough!! I’ve only just got over another horrible virus Sad hoping this one isn’t too bad!

For me the tickly cough passed really quickly in a day or two and turned into productive occasional cough with lots of sneezing, runny nose, head cold.
Honey and lemon helps also I made honey and raw onion syrup. Apparently onion has some antiviral properties - it seemed to help me a few times with coughs though it could be a coincidence.

Smear the soles of your feet with Vick's Vapo-rub, then put on a pair of socks before settling down for the night.

I never believed this until I tried it for myself. I'd probably say that 9/10 times I've done this; it's worked.

I hope you feel better soon.

Covoooonia! There's a specific one for dry tickly coughs, it works the best I find

DontPeeInThePlayHouse · 27/12/2021 20:48

pholcodine linctus, it's a suppressant. Only thing that truly stops a cough.

Karmagoat · 27/12/2021 20:49

Good old fashioned lemon and honey, also agree with vicks on the soles of feet

@RickyZooom, so annoying! Made worse by when hubby has a tickly cough,I moan about how irritating it is. Oh how the tables have turned! I'm a bit achey in my back and tummy periodically in the day, feels a bit period painey but other than that I'm ok.

@RedQueen81 Thanks for the tip,off to Google honey and raw honey syrup.

@MadamUndertaker Thanks for the reminder of the Vic's on the feet, always do it on the kids, never tried on myself as never usually get coughs!

Some tickly coughs are caused by post nasal drip entering the windpipe. Pre covid, any cold I had always resulted in such a cough that just wouldn't go away until asked at a pharmacy for cough medicine, and the assistant had noticed that I was swallowing excessively in between bouts of coughing. She recommended Sudufed to reduce the nasal congestion and bingo, my cough finally disappeared

Definitely this. Was listening to a radio programme a while back with a couple of doctors on and they said it's the only over the counter cough remedy worth bothering with.

I'm usually a believer that all cough medicine is rubbish. But when I had an irritating tickly cough With covid I tried Covonia out of desperation! The one for tickly coughs and it did help. Maybe not instantly but I'm sure it helped clear up my cough. My cough wasn't on my chest at all with covid. It was just a constant tickly feeling in my throat!

RickyZooom · 27/12/2021 20:56

@wonderstuff123 I’m trying to medicate mine with red wine - we’ll see if that works Grin

Fieldofflowers1 · 27/12/2021 21:14

Peel an onion and drizzle with honey then cover the bowl and let it settle for a couple of hours. Take a couple of spoons of the 'juice' and your cough should settle (not completely disappear but just helps that annoying stage).

Yumsnet · 27/12/2021 21:17

Pholcodeine (although harder to find these days) or piriton antihistamine can help with a tickly cough.

Lessofallthisunpleasantness · 27/12/2021 22:40

Don't lie down! My cough gets worse when I lie down. Lots of pillows and sleep sitting up. Also cough mixture or throat spray... or honey and whiskey.

wonderstuff123 · 28/12/2021 09:21

Thanks for all the replies. Took some honey and lemon and that helped last night.

Today, cough seems to have manifested into lovely snotty nose and some swollen glands. A lot less irritating than the cough!
