Wasn't there supposed to be an announcement today?

I thought Boris was meant to be making an announcement today about whether there will be any further restrictions. I can't find anything online though.

I read earlier that there was meant to be a meeting today, something to do with Lindsay Doyle, to decide if parliament would need to be recalled this week after assessing data. Have checked since I got back from work and nothing announced yet!

The Guardian were reporting a rumour that he was going to review the hospital data tomorrow and make a decision on whether to recall parliament.

I do think we're very much at the rumour and speculation stage, though. Noone will know til it's officially leaked.

The government website that publishes the figures has had a message on since about Thursday saying there’d be no figures this weekend. I’m assuming it’s more to do with a Christmas break, rather than a sign of anything.

They did say there would be no data released over Christmas. The "after Christmas" timeline was a bit vague, could mean Boxing Day could mean sometime in March.

They announced beforehand that the dashboard wouldn’t be updated over Christmas. It was widely reported.

Half and half. It does seem like, any time there's a press conference, the media have told us exactly what's going to be in it six hours in advance. So saying, 'We won't know anything til it's announced' is wrong - Laura Keunsberg will tell us what's going to be announced hours before Boris does. All he has to do is ruffle his hair and repeat what she's already said he'll say.

Plus my working assumption is that they leak possible decisions to get a sense of public opinion. If there's enough squawking on social media, then whatever measure was being planned can be quietly dropped without ever being official policy.

Wasn't it Humphrey Appleby who said, "Most leaks come from No 10. The ship of state is the only ship that leaks from the top". I reckon that's as true now as it was then.
