Chance of pcr result coming back on Christmas day?!

Hi All,

Currently isolating as partner has covid. I am asymptomatic, but of course, had a pcr test yesterday.

Has anybody had a result back today? Just wondering, as I am meant to be at work tomorrow night. Do you think there is any chance of it coming back today or tomorrow?

A slight chance but I doubt it if I’m honest

dementedpixie · 25/12/2021 15:38

My sister got a result back today

JanglyBeads · 25/12/2021 15:38

Labs are working through apparently, so no reason why not.

greyinganddecaying · 25/12/2021 15:38

PCRs are taking up to 72 hours to come back here, so unlikely.

DialsMavis · 25/12/2021 15:38

Yes! We tested at a drive thru site at 1.30pm yesterday, results back at 12pm today, I wad amazed! I feel a bit rough and got negative, DD completely fine anf positive (same as lft results).

DialsMavis · 25/12/2021 15:39

We are in Dorset and they usually take longer, hope that helps

JanglyBeads · 25/12/2021 15:39

However results are getting slower and slower because of the high volumes of tests due to omicron and seasonal unfettered mixing.

TheDuchessOfBeddington · 25/12/2021 15:42

I’m the exact same boat here! Husband had positive LFT on 22nd. We both went for PCRs on 23rd. Still waiting and have missed Christmas with my parents. My work is closed till 29th but would love to come out of isolation so I could see my brother who’s visiting from London.

I have 4 cigarettes, half a roll of loo paper but thankfully 2 bottles of wine.

I’ll let you know if I get a result today OP!

Daytobe · 25/12/2021 15:42

Thanks guys,

I did get tested on the 23rd December, but it came back void in a matter of hours Sad

We shall see..

I know someone who is working an 8 hour shift at a lab today so it's possible.

Dh tested positive on lateral 23rd we all went for a pcr that afternoon and still waiting for result. We are now over the 48hours stated by the test centre. Dc and I still testing negative on lateral.

The centre I went to quoted 36 hours. I heard they are super busy at the moment, both because the new variant is very transmittable AND lots of people without symptoms went for PCRs because they were worried about visiting relatives on Christmas Day.
dementedpixie · 25/12/2021 16:07

That's my sister had 2 more results for her family and just waiting for 1 more. All have been positive so far

Ontopofthesunset · 25/12/2021 21:24

Ds1 got his positive result this morning - posted on Wednesday.

IggyAce · 27/12/2021 08:01

Still haven’t had any of our results back. My friend went to the same test centre a day later and has had her results! I called 119 to chase and they said they wouldn’t for a further 48hours. At this rate dh isolation period will be over before we get results, the rest of the household still negative on lateral so I’m heading out to restock and collect some more lateral tests.

Breathmiller · 27/12/2021 08:29

Similar here iggyace
I will be 96 hours at lunchtime so will be able to chase up.

Mine was triggered by a close contact last Sunday so my isolation period is up at the end of tomorrow anyway. No symptoms and as I had covid in October the presumtion is it will be negative.

Just hoping I get a result today so we can finally have Christmas Day with our family tomorrow.

IggyAce · 28/12/2021 05:56

@Breathmiller did you manage to get your results?

ElftonWednesday · 28/12/2021 06:02

I got a negative result quite late on Christmas Eve, was pleasantly surprised both by the result and timing. We posted them on 22nd.

Breathmiller · 28/12/2021 19:46

I did, thank you iggyace . I chased them up yesterday at midday and got my negative result back today. Today was my last day of isolation anyway.
So, Christmas Day happened. (With one adult child and partner less as they tested positive this morning).
