Goady anti vaxxers

Met with a df yesterday who has refused the vaccines and her dh is the same, they are very vocal about it too. I'm fully vaccinated and have said why I believe it's important in the past but I've not gone on about it. It's about personal choice.

We met to exchange gifts yesterday and she is now completely denying that Covid is an issue at all. They don't watch the news and believe now people shouldn't bother even testing for Covid. Her dd is 7 and df then started talking about a joke video that parodied vaxxers. She got out her phone and showed this to her dd and my dds also came over to look. I quickly distracted them and changed the topic but......how weird? How can you deny the existence of Covid years during a pandemic?

I wonder if a lot of the so called ant-vaxers are “anti Tory” “anti-establishment” types. Not so long ago there was a spate of anti-capitalism protests in the city and I suspect they are the sort of people who are more likely to be suspicious of the vaccine program. The thing is though I’m sure there would still be the same drive to get people vaccinated if say we had a Lib Dem or Labour government (well not if Corbyn ended up in power)…

@Dontgetyerknicksinatwist

Agree! Totally! And I think the message of what is good health advice v’s I hate the government has got completely confused.

And I think it’s a complete and utter shame that has happened because we have some awe inspiring, amazing, and well motivated scientists worldwide whose work/message/good intent has been basically - shat on.

Maybe a coalition government would have been better during the pandemic - to make it clear that this is health advice and not Boris advice (who then does as he pleases and ignores it himself).

BUT - the Tories secured us the vaccines. Although whether vaccinating unfairly around the globe works remains to be seen.

So she's obviously not seen all those news article showing anti vaxxers in hospital on ventilators telling people what a mustake they've made and to get jabbed. Yes you can still get it but it'll be less intensive. Just stay away from her until its all over. She's happy to put you and your family at risk so leave her to it. She's not respecting your decisions or your safety. I have a couple of friends who have been attending concerts etc. I'm no longer in touch but they don't know why. They have been jabbed though.

I believe vaccination status should be like religion, you don't discuss it in polite company.

My mum is triple vaxxed. I'm double vaxxed. She is very pro 'mandated' vaccinations, I'm very pro-choice - so although we're both vaxxed we still disagree on how Covid is being dealt with globally. I find it easier to just not discuss it, which I'm sure she does too.

I can understand the fear/bewilderment from both sides - your friend was massively out of line showing your DD anti-vax stuff, and likewise, if you'd shown her daughter pro-vax videos I'd think you were out of line too. I'd just say to the extremes on either side 'each to their own' and change the subject.

I can't wait till this pandemic is over, it's so divisive - on par with Brexit!
