Day 9 - still so ill - hand hold please....

BigotSpigot · 23/12/2021 14:21

Never asked for a hand hold before but I am finding this harder and harder both mentally and physically....

2 jabs (AZ), last one 3 months ago so caught this just as I was offered a booster. This is day 9 and still have what feels like a strange and terrible full on flu - but I don't have a sore throat/cough/runny nose, in fact no cold symptoms at all.

My breathing is fine (monitoring) and yesterday I thought I turned a corner, but then was awake nearly all night with horrific restless legs and insomnia and back feeling just horrific again today. I am just exhausted now after so many bad days and nights and honestly feeling so, so ill.

Please tell me I will start to feel better soon.

I feel the same, day 7 here and covid has hit me harder than any illness I have had before. I have also been double jabbed (moderna) still feel truly awful and can’t ever imagine feeling well again. I hope you feel better soon, wish I could suggest something that may help but I don’t know what to try myself

BigotSpigot · 23/12/2021 14:50

Sorry you are feeling so bad too but thanks for posting as it's so incredibly lonely and just feels endless. I have never felt so terrible either (and had lots of illness). I hope you start to feel better.

Have you got a pulse oximeter? I bought one and found it useful to watch my oxygen level as I am very anxious so start to feel breathless. It is lonely I agree and I keep worrying I will get worse and end up in hospital

PickledWilly · 23/12/2021 14:53

Hand hold offered here. I am day 9 and up to this morning I have literally never felt so ill. Severe shortness of breath the last 2 days that I was seriously concerned about. However, late morning today I have turned a corner! I suddenly feel so much better. I would not have thought it was possible yesterday. There is hope! I now have what can only be described as 'full feeling lungs' and that's it.

PassionateaboutSEN · 23/12/2021 14:55

Hi, I had covid a couple of months ago after being double vaccinated (AZ) and honestly thought I was never going to recover as I felt so so awful! It really knocked me for six as I'm never usually unwell but I did get better although still feel more fatigued than usual. I heard zinc could help so took that along with echinacea that my sister recommended but tbh I think it was the sleep that helped the most. I honestly had every single symptom you could possibly get but I did improve gradually and by day 10 was much better (although with no taste or smell - but this has thankfully now returned!). Be kind to yourself and I'm sure you'll soon be recovered

BigotSpigot · 23/12/2021 17:03

Thanks for everyone for posting. I am honestly shocked at just how ill I am (and guessing this is a 'mild' case) just not sure how long I can keep going without sleep mentally and otherwise.

Bobholll · 23/12/2021 17:10

It sounds more like the lack of the sleep is knocking you out than actual covid. I thought I might die of sleep deprivation when DD1 was a baby, I felt so ill & just awful.

What symptoms do you have if not cold like or breathing issues? Fever? Pain?

Can someone get you some nightnurse to help you sleep? Or I find piriton drowsy, might be worth a shot. I got insomnia with covid, it wasn’t nice but I found I could sleep in the daytime oddly. So I just did that when my kids were at school! I think it was a lack of doing anything! I was tired but my body wasn’t remotely tired. I forced myself to do some jobs round the house like hoovering, dusting, hanging up the washing etc.. that wore me out & I’d fall asleep!

Hope you feel better soon!

Bellybutton88 · 23/12/2021 17:26

Hi i felt awful on day 9 still and still do (day 11). Had awful cough and coughing so intenseley gave me headaches and chest pains. Also had gestational symptoms, nausea no appetite etc. How is your temperature, o2(if you have a pulse reader), breathing etc? I too was expecting a mild bout but its hit me harder than i expected. I am double jabbed too.

alongwayhome · 23/12/2021 17:30

Have you tried taking night nurse liquid before bed? It always helps me sleep when I'm ill.

BigotSpigot · 23/12/2021 17:36

It is the lack of sleep which is causing problems. I just spoke to the GP and they suggested taking Nytol so will do that tonight. This is the hardest thing I have ever experienced (and I am not faint hearted, have had serious illness in the past).

I really appreciate the replies. It's keeping me sane....

MalbecandToast · 23/12/2021 19:53

Ask someone to get you some phenergan from the pharmacy, its for travel sickness but really helps sleep too.

BigotSpigot · 24/12/2021 12:54

Hope everyone who's ill got a better night. The Nytol helped and I definitely slept more but still ill this morning! It's just never ending.....

I am joining you again - now feel horrific again on day 10. Have felt bad all day. Merry bloody Christmas

BigotSpigot · 24/12/2021 19:34

Oh no PickledWilly I am so, so sorry to hear that. I actually got up today as really want to be on my feet tomorrow for DC (they have had a dreadful two years). Having a better nights sleep definitely made a difference. I hope you have a better night.

@pickledwilly am in the same boat and I'm on day 12. Still feel awful. Iv heard it can take weeks to fully recover

BigotSpigot · 26/12/2021 11:12

How's everyone doing? I had a slightly better day yesterday... but bad night and feel terrible again!

OP posts:
RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 26/12/2021 11:15

I had it in November. Was still ill properly on day 9, then suddenly better by day 11.

Tifalockhart · 26/12/2021 11:27

I don’t understand it. I feel better for a day and then feel worse again, day 11 here and the fatigue is absolutely overwhelming, even walking up the stairs makes my heart palpitate. I feel completely dull, blank, and disconnected from everything. I hope everyone else feels better.

BabyOctopus · 26/12/2021 12:58

I am in a very similar situation to you, OP. Two AZs, and got the call for my booster while in isolation.

Felt sick yesterday morning which DC opened stocking. Couldn’t enjoy Christmas lunch properly. DH has it too. Thankfully DS seems so far pretty much recovered. We will see once normal activities resume once he is out of isolation, though.

Have a cough, tiredness, full lungs and no smell/taste (day 7 of symptoms, loss of smell from yesterday) but it’s the way it’s affecting my mood that’s the worst. Feel exactly how @Tifalockhart describes it - dull and blank and hopeless.

I’m sorry sleep is a problem, @BigotSpigot. I get restless legs (and arms too) sometimes, though not yet with COVID. I really hope you manage to get a better night tonight.

Thinking of everyone stuck in this boat right now

My son (10) is on day 5 and is still really suffering. Oddly no cold symptoms but totally wipped out, nausea and lack of appetite. Feel so awful for him 😞

Siuan · 26/12/2021 15:09

I was a month before I started to improve.
"Mild illness" means not needing hospital and I think it's a shock to many people how ill they feel.

It sounds like you have turned the corner OP but take it slowly, rest and expect to feel tired easily.

Lindy2 · 26/12/2021 15:18

Hand hold here.

It will pass.

Covid has a knack of just going on so much longer than a normal virus or flu.

I had Covid back in January before vaccination was available.

The first week was fairly rough but actually not too bad.

The second week I was floored - it was difficult because I was endlessly waiting for the day you wake up feeling a bit better and it just never really happened.

The third week was a very very gradual improvement.

You need to give it time. Monitor your oxygen with a pulse oximeter and rest as much as you possibly can. I slept well throughout but I've heard night nurse has helped those struggling to get to sleep.

I hope you feel better soon.

Happylittlethoughts · 26/12/2021 15:20

On Day 10. For last 5 days I've been left with tiredness, gastric upset, vertigo, swimming head, restless legs/arms. So flat. I thought I'd be better but showing no signs. Love to you all

BigotSpigot · 27/12/2021 14:51

Still struggling on day 13, but not sure now if it's actual Covid or my mild POTS and ME have basically ramped up. I still have no cough or lung issues but just can't stop shaking (in waves) and very wobbly when I get up. Sorry for all of you in same position... it's dreadful.
