Anti-testers

Has anyone come across these? I have a colleague who her and her family refuse to get the vaccine, ok I don't agree but you do you. But they refuse to have any part in the pandemic at all, and have never taken any covid test, never have and never will as she says.

So the problem with this is she came into work the other day saying her husband is not feeling great and spent the whole of the day before in bed. But obviously they don't have a clue whether it's covid or not because no one will test.

It's just so frustrating. Especially around Christmas. I have another colleague who is more vulnerable to covid and she was saying how stressed this particular colleague is making her, but obviously no one can force anyone to get vaccinated or take tests.

Has anyone else come across these anti-testers?

I think we can tell who would desperately pretend to themselves the hadn’t been bitten in a zombie apocalypse.

DumplingsAndStew · 24/12/2021 16:35

@Againstmachine

I'm fully vaccinated but don't do testing where do I fall.
Same. Have had two vaccines plus a booster at the earliest opportunities.

I've never had need to do a PCR, and only done one LFT.

Parker231 · 24/12/2021 16:42

We all do regular LFT regardless of whether we have symptoms. Don’t want to risk other people. This week we did them daily as both my and DH’s families were coming to stay. Everyone tested to protect each other.
Happy to test and potentially isolate if it helps slows down transmission

toomuchlaundry · 24/12/2021 16:49

For those who won’t test because you don’t want to be in the system, if you had another notifiable disease would you refuse to notify that too?

toomuchlaundry · 24/12/2021 16:51

For those vaccinated but not done a test, why wouldn’t you test before getting vaccinated, at least out of common courtesy for all the people at the vaccination centre?

I find them incredibly traumatic. Possibly connected to some health issues I have, possibly sensory, I'm really not sure.

I wear a mask, I social distance where possible, I am in minimal contact with other people.

If I had to test before vaccination, I probably wouldn't get vaccinated if I'm honest. I have a history (and current issue) of avoiding making medical appointments, and what's made this manageable is having the appointment made for me, rather than me being able to talk myself out of doing it.

No, I'm not discourteous.

1dayatatime · 24/12/2021 17:21

Anti vaxx, anti mask, anti testing, is there really no end to this division, hate and anger.

I have enough concerns going on about the impact on my livelihood, my children's education and future and my own mental health to be that concerned with other people's personal choices.

But I do despair at the dark side of humanity looking for someone to blame, what's next blaming people for being a counter revolutionary?

I read last year "journal of the Plague" by Daniel Defoe where the Jews were being blamed, for the plague. Sadly it seems some people have not changed much in 300 years.

They didn't tell me to do this before I got vaccinated anyone else nope because it's something you have made up in your head.

Parker231 · 24/12/2021 18:57

I’m a vaccinator. I hope everyone is testing before going for their booster. If Covid spreads through the vaccinators and volunteers, the centre will close and then everyone will complain they can’t get a booster locally. It’s common sense.

Timeturnerplease · 24/12/2021 19:35

I know an anti vaxxer who refuses to test or isolate, because apparently the 12 month infant jabs gave her child a lifelong illness. She says she’s taking a stand against the government.

Ironically, it’s her child who will be at risk from this stance, as their condition makes them CV.

EmmyLake · 24/12/2021 20:49

I've only tested about twice because I just don't socialise, shop entirely online, and nor does DH so it would be a bit of a waste! We've had no symptoms to warrant a test and the only indoor place I've been in December was the vaccine centre! Basically if I have to wear a mask I'm not going inside so there's little point wasting the kits when other people have more need of them. My sister was horrified I'm not testing regularly, but really why would I?!

toomuchlaundry · 24/12/2021 21:10

@EmmyLake have you not seen anyone for nearly 2 years, not been outside the house?

EmmyLake · 24/12/2021 21:51

@toomuchlaundry I've not been inside anywhere other than my own house and the vaccine centre since February 2020 and everything else has been outside, walking, cycling etc. Plus it's only relatively recently that frequent testing has been such a thing, when I saw people outside much earlier on it wasn't. I did meet a friend for a walk outside recently and that was one of the rare occasions I did test first. But as a regular thing there's simply no point!

toomuchlaundry · 24/12/2021 22:14

@EmmyLake did you go out before COVID?

Wandamakesporridge · 24/12/2021 23:55

Yes a family member who does not believe in vaccinations, masks, or testing - they believe Covid is no worse than flu, and the restrictions are political control of our lives.

I have avoided discussing it with them up to now, taking the position that we all have different opinions and that’s fair enough (even though they have sent me quite a few messages about it, which I haven’t responded to up to now).

However it’s come to a head because of meeting up at Christmas, we have a CEV family member who is high risk from Covid, and elderly parents, so we all suggested doing LFTs on the day we meet up, and they refused. So now we can’t all be together. I feel quite sad about it especially for the children. It feels like they are putting their principles of personal freedom above the well-being of the family.

As for testing, I do it regularly because of the nature of my job. However if we are just at home not seeing people I don’t bother. I’ve had Covid and am fully vaxxed so I think my risks of getting ill are low but I don’t want to pass it onto others who are more vulnerable.

It’s a PITA testing positive for Covid, but not the end of the world. However I do think there are a certain number of people who say ‘I don’t believe in testing’ when actually they just don’t want to have to isolate…..

Luminousnose · 27/12/2021 19:08

I had PCR because DD had positive LFT and work policy (GP surgery) is lateral flow twice a week and PCR if in contact with someone with positive LFT. We both had positive PCRs, but interestingly I had two negative LFTs while waiting for PCR result,

emailaddressplease · 27/12/2021 19:19

Yep! They refuse PCR.
They apparently did LFT on Christmas Day but that night ended up with a positive LFT..

They saw us all that day and I was sat next to the said person! I'm very angry. Took ourselves to get a PCR test today.

Not sure why they LFT Christmas night when they apparently done it Christmas afternoon.

It annoys me more as they haven't even apologised. Actually said it must have come from one of us in the space of 4 hours. So 4 hours meeting and then developing symptoms.

The said person said they were not well because of another issue but they are prone to lie about illnesses and still mingle with people. Just selfish.

Acidburn · 27/12/2021 20:27

I have a colleague who just won't test. There were 3 times since the pandemic started when he walked into the office with cold symptoms. Every single time I asked him whether he tested - he said he doesn't have time for this bullshit, and not every cold is covid related. We are a very small company, so no repercussions for his selfishness.
