Negative PCR but lost my voice

So I've done a negative PCR it came back this morning but past 2 days I can't talk at all!
No other symptoms I feel fine.

Drinking loads of water, paracetamol and taking throat sweets to no avail

Anyone else had this?

What does that have to do with covid? You've taken a test and it's negative so it's very likely not that. I don't even think loss of voice is a symptom.

There are plenty other illnesses and ailments still in existence.

@HumunaHey
My GP sent me for a PCR

I was only asking if anyone else had experienced this

There's no need to be quite so rude

It could be laryngitis caused by one of the many viruses that is not Covid. A very common disease especially in winter.

Bobholll · 22/12/2021 18:38

Loosing your voice would be an unusual covid symptom. I guess your GP wanted to rule it out.

Have you been doing a lot of talking recently? Or been in noisy environments where you’ve had to speak loudly? Like restaurants or bars?

I’ve fully lost my voice twice in my life. Both times during teacher training when I’d been speaking a LOT. 🙈

Yes I did 2 weeks ago. scratchy throat, lost voice etc, slight cough. All my pcrs were negative. I did 3 as Dp had covid at the time and I wasn't sure if I have covid or not.

My lost voice was not covid. A week later I tested positive for covid with totally new symptoms!

Just unlucky to catch two things back to back. But my point is that quite a few people have non covid coughs, colds, lost voice etc!

Cherrytart23 · 22/12/2021 18:55

Have you never had a cold? I no some people think the only illness to exist right now is covid but I can safely say there are other illnesses around.

Nidan2Sandan · 22/12/2021 19:52

My colleague had exactly the same, her voice was gone but she also felt pretty shit so had a PCR which was negative.

Hellocatshome · 22/12/2021 19:55

Laryngitis its a fairly run if the mill illness.

Tigertealeaves · 22/12/2021 20:31

FWIW, I have just recovered from covid, and losing my voice was my only symptom. Unless I had two things at once!

polkadotpixie · 22/12/2021 20:54

Sounds like Laryngitis. I had it a couple of times years ago (so definitely not COVID)

superram · 22/12/2021 21:01

I’m positive and the only thing that has changed is my voice. I’m also part of a study to see if covid can be detected by voice changes (weird). I haven’t lost my voice though at all.

EbonanzaScrooge · 22/12/2021 21:59

That’s laryngitis. I’ve had it twice and it’s annoying as hell. Completely well otherwise but no voice for a few days

NinaDefoe · 22/12/2021 22:07

I’ve been coughing on and off since mid September and was signed off work for two weeks in November. It cleared up and is now back. Negative covid tests throughout.
Our immune systems have take a battering but my doctor reminded me that seasonal viruses still exist.
Sounds like you have one.

alongwayhome · 23/12/2021 11:15

Laryngitis. Try gargling with soluble aspirin if it's sore, but really you just need to rest your voice and it'll come back when it's ready!

Ifitistobesaid · 23/12/2021 11:27

I’d keep testing with lateral flow tests, my initial PCR and lateral flow were negative though I already had a scratchy throat and hoarse voice at that point. I didn’t get a positive antigen until my third day of symptoms.
