Hi, please forgive me I've been awake all night with my two-year-old. My four-year-old has woken up with a temperature of 39° this morning. I posted yesterday saying that she had drunk through a mouldy straw, so it could be some kind of food poisoning from this? She also has a spot that has appeared this morning - see pic. Additionally, she had Covid within the last 30 days, around two months ago, so I don't think I can do another PCR test (Or maybe I should because she has a new symptom)? I'll be keep her off school and working out what to do this morning. I'm supposed to be going for my booster this morning! Don't think I'll be going. Do we all have to isolate for 10 days eve without the test? Help!

I've got two small children to look after, one unwell ,a cat who has just shat on the bed, I've had no sleep, so I would have appreciate some help work out what I meant to be doing this morning! 😭

Your suppose to do a new PCR if she has a new symptom even if it’s within the 90 days.

If she has no other symptoms then I would be surprised if it was food poisoning.

Google photo of chicken pox hearld spots. If it is chicken pox it may take a few days for you to be certain.

That does look like chicken pox, if it is and you've had it before you don't need to isolate but your child will need to stay home. Has your 2 year old had it? It's extremely contagious so unless your 2 year old has already had it I'd expect them to get it too.

So sorry thats really rubbish. I've no idea about the pic but I believe you can still go for your booster if you're able to leave the DC at home. You could do a lateral flow test on yourself first to make sure all ok. It's sensible to do that anyway.

Re testing again. You are meant to PCR with new symptoms within 90 days of a positive test. However it's a big dilemma because it could still show positive from the previous infection and you'd not know. We just retested and have been very lucky to get a negative. Previous infection was 60 days (2 months) ago. You could start with a lateral flow and go from there. Hope everything works out OK.

Thanks. Right we will do a pcr on the eldest but I'll still go for my booster. I'll Google herald spots thanks so much 🤯

Realised I assumed you're in England so not sure of the rules for Scotland or Wales if you're there.

Scotland !

Do you live with someone else who can look after the kids? If you do, in your situation I would do a LFT and if clear go to your booster app. If you don't have childcare that's obv not possible.

You poor things. I would-
Rule out the connection with the mouldy straw
Get a PCR
Go for my booster
Unconvinced about the chicken pox style spot
Stay in my pyjamas and put whatever the kids will watch on the tv

Just wondering if you need a PCR if you can get chicken pox diagnosed somehow. Might be one for the doctors to answer if you can also send in a photo. No idea if you can have both at the same time.

EezyOozy · 22/12/2021 08:15

Thanks all so much. Bit of a cluster fuck this morning. I will call gp see if I can get them to look at a pic. They will probably tell me to wait a couple of days and see if more spots develop

Ah you're in Scotland. Sorry OP I don't know about the isolation rules there if a household member has symtoms. Hope someone else can advise Smile
