Anyone else can’t sleep because of Covid symptoms

incornerreading · 21/12/2021 22:57

Have incredible thirst plus restless legs.
I’m assuming the restless legs are covid related, maybe it’s a separate thing.
I’m so exhausted but for the second night in a row my body won’t let me sleep

Yes I had horrible feverish dreams and constant waking last night (hence being on MN at 1am and 4am!!) am boiling hot despite it being cool in my bedroom and also got a raging thirst and a headache.

You have my every sympathy

Akire · 21/12/2021 23:00

Do you have a good radio station you liked? I spent most nights awake with mine just couldn’t settle. Helped to keep me
Company.

incornerreading · 21/12/2021 23:01

Oh no! Sympathy back at you

Berlinkreuzberg · 21/12/2021 23:02

I had it last december. Horrendous insomnia and a kind of wired feeling so I couldn't rest. Hope you get better soon, it's awful.

Youngatheart00 · 21/12/2021 23:02

@Akire that’s a good idea. I tend to put a podcast on when I can’t sleep or listen to a Calm sleep story. Last night I was wired and kept listening from start to finish though which is definitely not the objective!

Have you taken some paracetamol OP to try and bring your fever down

CatherineCawood · 21/12/2021 23:03

YES to the restless legs. I had a terrible night with them! I had about 3 awful nights sleep followed by about 7 × 12 hour jobs!

PriamFarrl · 21/12/2021 23:04

Yes with the legs!
I had to get up and walk every hour or so. I made my stand goal before midday!

Cal22 · 21/12/2021 23:04

Yeah I tested positive last Wednesday then had 3 nights in a row of feeling like I had insomnia but also couldn't sleep because my nose was blocked and I kept coughing! Since then it's gradually getting better, I managed to sleep through untill 6am this morning before I woke up having a coughing fit! I've also being really thirty throughout the day today, my lips are chapped, I have been drinking lots, but maybe it's from being indoors for so long 🤔

incornerreading · 21/12/2021 23:09

A podcast is a good idea thanks.
And I think I’m due more paracetamol.
It feels weird, usually with a virus I’d sleep well unless I was too congested or whatever. It’s strange feeling so annoyingly wide awake just when my body needs rest.

I empathise 😭 I've had no sleep for four nights now. I'm not sure whats worse.....
Coughing everytime I breathe
Restless legs
Shaking from fever (paracetamol not doing alot)
The BLINDING headache

God I'm feeling sorry for myself.....

I keep a sports bottle propped up next to my pillow and sip all night.

Giving everyone hugs. IT'S THE WORST!!!! XXX

Magnesium oil is fantastic for restless legs. I've been using Better You spray for years and it works a treat. Hope you have some better sleep and get well very soon.

Buzzinwithbez · 22/12/2021 17:39

Do you have magnesium?.
That could help massively both with sleeplessness and restless legs.
Epsom salts in the bath?
Magnesium in a supplement/ multivitamin.

Grimbelina · 22/12/2021 17:41

I have had the dreadful restless legs and thirst too! Hours awake every night. I was taking magnesium and having a magnesium salts bath for ages and it wasn't touching it.

Now on day 8 and the thirst has slightly abated and I think I feel marginally better so am taking that as a sign I have turned a corner.

CherryRipe1 · 22/12/2021 17:47

Great about the magnesium tips, thanks🙂. I have to virtually crush my legs to numbness & cause pain to get restless legs under control. I found sleeping prone helped my Covid breathing issues ( had it twice, 1st time horrendous). Apparantly ice packs on the chest helps the vagus nerve & aids sleep. Reading helped me sleep too.

CherryRipe1 · 22/12/2021 17:48

Speedy recovery by the way x

Youngatheart00 · 22/12/2021 17:54

You could also try a warm bath with Epsom salts if you have any. Really helped my random muscle spasms and joint aches

Buzzinwithbez · 22/12/2021 18:21

I find magnesium oil works best on the back of my neck and on my legs.
Magnesium chloride is the most absorbable for baths, magnesium glycinate orally.
I still see most notable benefit from applying the oil - sensitive version as the other brings me out in a rash.

Magnesium is needed in something like 300 processes and of course depletes when we're I'll. It also is used more quickly when taking vitamin d - which is a good thing, bit needs replenishing.

Grimbelina · 22/12/2021 18:24

Am actually (sadly) hugely to relieved that I am not the only experiencing this together with the wired/anxious feeling. I didn't realise that these were some of the Covid symptoms.

JS87 · 22/12/2021 18:26

I’ve recently found potassium works for my restless legs. So try bananas or coconut water. Magnesium and iron are also supposed to help.

JS87 · 22/12/2021 18:28

Or potassium citrate on Amazon.

QueenofLouisiana · 22/12/2021 18:29

I felt like I had red hot ants running inside my legs. Fortunately it only lasted a couple of nights. Those were long, long hours.
Hope you make a quick recovery.

eternalopt · 23/12/2021 09:52

My mother swears by this when she has restless legs ... www.boots.com/antistax-leg-and-vein-massage-gel-125ml-10161624

incornerreading · 23/12/2021 13:45

@alphabetsoup1980 that sounds rough, I hope you’re on the mend and will get some good sleep at last.
You too @Grimbelina
Thankfully in the end I only had two wakeful nights. Third night I slept ok.
I tend to get restless legs now and then so I need to keep my magnesium levels up. But those were my worst restless legs ever, what I just had with covid - so intense.
That massage gel sounds good too.

Glad you are feeling better. I think Covid possibly plays havoc with our neurotransmitters ie dopamine, serotonin etc along with heaven knows what else. I that can correlate to anxiety, depression, another Covid side effect. I've read that low dopamine is another probable cause of restless legs which seems to be somewhat unexplained with various theories. We are complicated creatures!

baroqueandblue · 04/01/2022 02:57

Thank you OP for starting this thread. I'm struggling with the insomnia and wired feeling, tonight is by far the worst so far and I'm at least a week in. Have to be up at 6 and right now I feel like I'll never sleep again! Just hoping that when 6 o' clock comes I still feel wide awake and not sleep deprived! You were ill before Christmas, how are you doing now? Sleeping better I hope! 😃
