Panto tomorrow

Dingdong99 · 21/12/2021 21:03

We've got tickets as a large family group tomorrow to go to the panto

We've been looking forward to it and the kids are excited, but is it a bit reckless to go, just before Xmas and run the risk of ruining Xmas or even giving it to an older / more vulnerable relative?

WWYD?

I’m going tomorrow, looking forward to it!! have been out a far bit the last two weeks, but I did have Covid last month and got my booster on Sunday after the 28 days , so have decided just it get on with it. Queen Nicola has now put a end to any fun for Hogmanay so I’m getting out now while I’m still allowed.

HariboMaroon · 21/12/2021 21:37

I’m going on Thursday and then have Santa booked for Friday on a train. Can’t wait.

aquamarine1 · 21/12/2021 21:40

I would go but if you don't please don't ask for a refund as the previous poster did. If the show is going ahead then everyone still needs to be paid and it is pretty shocking to take money back out after the truly horrendous two years the arts have suffered.

christmascovid7356 · 21/12/2021 21:47

My DH went to London (despite my objections) for a night out and brought covid home and despite isolating away from us has infected toddler DS and I.

I have also worked throughout and double vaccinated (missed my booster due to positive test) I wouldn't risk it - our Christmas is ruined.

With the lag in us all catching it we're not out until the new year as a family, by which point lockdown will probably be here and I'll have missed seeing all my family, again.

Just enjoy your Christmas

ThievesTemple · 21/12/2021 21:49

I think it would depend on case numbers where you live, if you’re seeing elderly or vulnerable people over Christmas and how gutted you’d be if you or your family test positive. Think omicron has a shorter incubation period to Delta.

Also bear in mind, the people attending will not be those who are risk adverse, they are most likely to be people who have been mixing and doing many other indoor events.

Treaclepie19 · 21/12/2021 21:52

We went to the panto sunday. Our Christmas Dinner is just the four of us at home though.
I'm fully vaccinated and take as many precautions as I can but I have attended social events this year. Gigs, festivals and theatre.

Treaclepie19 · 21/12/2021 21:54

Should say, we is me, dh, ds(6) and dd (1) and we haven't had covid yet.

SantasCat · 21/12/2021 22:02

I'm in Scotland and was there on Saturday. Mask kn throughout, sweets in papers only. Regular hand gel. No loo trips etc

scandikate · 21/12/2021 22:06

I would go particularly if your children are excited.

NotVictorianHonestly · 21/12/2021 22:12

I'm pretty chilled about it and wouldn't think twice normally. But I'm so desperate to spend Christmas with my family that I have cancelled everything over the last week. I'll be back with a vengeance in January though, restrictions permitting.

I do have a couple of more vulnerable family members though so that might be swaying me.

jazzandh · 21/12/2021 22:26

My 11 year old (so unvaxxed) DS went on a Saturday a couple of weeks ago. His school wasn't rife with it. He wore a mask apart from when he had a drink.

The following Monday morning he tested positive.

It is a risk.

100% this!!!
TiddleTaddleTat · 21/12/2021 22:42

In response to the previous comment I asked for a refund as it was a big treat for us - for a special birthday. Something we had to save up for months. I would have loved to have left the money with the theatre but £120ish needs to go towards on an alternative gift now.

FrownedUpon · 21/12/2021 22:46

No I wouldn’t go. Just not worth the risk in my view.

Unsure33 · 21/12/2021 22:46

@HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime

Thank you , because your post is a prime example of why the rules ca not be black and white. We are all in different situations.

If only the British public could be educated to listen to whitty and use their common sense.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 21/12/2021 22:47

Went to panto -south east London- last weekend- loved it! That’s the stuff that makes Christmas so I for one was happy to go.

sunflowerroses · 21/12/2021 23:39

We went on Sunday with the same group we intend to spend christmas with. We have one more theatre trip before christmas with same group that we will also go to.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 23/12/2021 19:09

Did you go op?

I went to see a ballet last night, the theatres was less than 20% full despite the show being virtually sold out which made me glad that I’d decided to go.

Dingdong99 · 23/12/2021 19:56

Much too - no we didn't, but we thankfully managed to change our tickets to a few days after Christmas so won't miss out at least

I am quite glad we didn't as so many people seem to be catching it in the last coupe of days

We’ve got tickets to the theatre 🎭 tonight but have reluctantly decided not to go.

BrutusMcDogface · 23/12/2021 20:22

We went to panto yesterday and it was bloody brilliant.

DolphinFC · 23/12/2021 20:36

120,000 cases yesterday.
This time next week there'll be more.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 23/12/2021 20:38

We were supposed to be going between Christmas and the new year, but Wales has decided events can have max 30 people if indoors from Boxing day, so panto is cancelled.

catblanket · 23/12/2021 20:40

Just back from panto. Took a calculated risk that it would be quiet as lots of people would have cancelled, but actually it was totally full. Also, hardly anyone was wearing a mask, which I was quite shocked about (we only just moved back to the U.K. from abroad and I am still a bit naive about these things!). We had N95 masks on and the kids wore masks (as they are totally used to it from where we used to live). I’m doing nasal rinses tonight and attacking myself with Vicks Cold Defense in the vague hope that I can stave off any infection!

It was a fun evening though. And hopefully, even if we have caught Covid, we won’t be infectious until after Boxing Day.
