Severe arm pain after booster

Shudacudawuda · 21/12/2021 19:12

I had the moderna booster on Sunday, and my arm is so painful I can't use it, it's really getting me down.
I had to take cocodamol last night just to get a few hours of sleep......and I say that as someone who didn't even take paracetamol for my miscarriages or broken bone. I am generally pretty tough at coping with pain, but this is off the scale.

Please please can anyone reassure me that this will ease soon? I can't get dressed, I can't lift my arm at all. I can't sleep. I need to work. Sad

Why not ring 111 for some advice/reassurance. It does sound the extreme end of arm ache but I’m sure it within normal range and it’s just bad luck.

I had the Moderna booster and my arm was agony.. it started hurting a few hours after the jab, was agony for about 36 hours (cocodomol and ibroprofen took the edge off) then it was a bit achy for another 2 days. I've heard a few people say they've had same experience with Moderna.

SheWolfOFFrancee · 21/12/2021 19:19

I had mine Saturday and my arm is only just getting better. I couldn’t lift it Sunday and Monday. I’ve also got a hot itchy red patch around the injection site and swelling. Also had chills and muscle aches.

lawandgin · 21/12/2021 19:21

My mum had the moderna booster and had the exact same thing. Lasted about 48 hours from memory, then gradually easing over another couple of days.

Shudacudawuda · 21/12/2021 19:22

Thank you I feel better to know I'm not the only one who's had to reach for the cocodamol! It seems crazy to me that a jab can hurt this much.
I don't really want to bother 111 if this is within the realms of normal.

Yes same experience with first jab which was Moderna. Couldn't get dressed or do anything with it for 24-48 hours. You should definitely ring for advice if it's getting worse or not showing any improvement though.

Mine was fine again 4 days later. Weirdly I didn't have anything like the same level of arm pain with my second Moderna jab Confused

Fuuuuuckit · 21/12/2021 19:25

I had exactly the same last week op - jab weds pm, couldn't lift my arm on Thurs, took co-codamol at bedtime. Eased on Fri, fine by Sunday morning.

Pinkyjack · 21/12/2021 19:25

You could try take a antihistamine this might help you...hope you feel better soon.

Mindymomo · 21/12/2021 19:28

My DS had his yesterday, went to work this morning, but had to come home as he’s shattered and cannot lift his arm. He decided to have injection in the other arm to his previous 2 Pfizer vaccines, but is regretting it now. He’s slept all afternoon, feels better but cannot do anything with his right arm.

Artichokeleaves · 21/12/2021 19:30

I had the moderna this morning, and arm is very painful, plus achy all over. I had no reaction at all to the two Pfizer jabs! Glad its not just me although it looks like people suffer from several days if they have a reaction.

Butternutsqoosh · 21/12/2021 19:32

My DD had this with her 2nd Moderna jab too - I had my booster on Sunday (Pfizer) first 2 were AZ and my arm KILLED on Sunday night, I couldn't even sleep on it - been feeling terrible since Sunday night too!

Northernshepherd · 21/12/2021 19:32

Had the same thing with my 1st moderna jab in summer. It was excruciating. Lasted about 3-4 days but once it started to ease up it got better quickly.

MaryBoBary · 21/12/2021 19:33

I also had this with both of my Moderna jabs. I've just had Pfizer as my booster and it's nowhere near as bad. I couldn't move my arm for 2 days after Moderna.

SundaysinKernow · 21/12/2021 19:34

Had mine yesterday - moderna too. Felt awful last night and today. Arm is really sore and I feel like I have the flu. Everyone says that I should feel better tomorrow

Topseyt · 21/12/2021 19:36

My two eldest DDs (26 and 23) had Moderna as their boosters this afternoon and are starting to complain of sore arms.

Shudacudawuda · 21/12/2021 19:37

OK thank you all, here's hoping it will ease soon, sounds like it shouldn't be much longer 🤞 ☹
I'm feeling really sorry for myself right now.
I had AZ for the first two and had no reaction whatsoever, I guess its my turn!

My arm really hurt for over a week after moderna booster. Very painful to the extent that it really disturbed my sleep as i woke up every time I lay on it. Gradually from about day 9 I realised I wasn't noticing it so much and then it quite quickly got better. No problems since.

AchillesLastStand · 21/12/2021 19:37

I had Moderna on Saturday morning and had arm pain almost immediately afterwards. It came and went and then on Sunday night I was in agony not on the injection site specifically but on my underarm and armpit I had a stabbing pain. I’m on prescription cocodamol for dental problems and even that didn’t take the edge off. The good news is that my arm started to improve on Monday and is a lot better today. I think it’s quite a common side effect unfortunately.

Suzi888 · 21/12/2021 19:40

Do you have arthritis? My DM does and her arm was very painful too.
I had a Pfizer booster and my arm felt heavy and a bit uncomfortable for two days, had AZ before that and no side effects at all.
It will improve, will just take awhileFlowers

Shudacudawuda · 21/12/2021 21:00

No, no arthritis. No pre existing conditions at all. Just bad luck I suppose.
Thank you 😊

This happened to me with the second Pfizer dose 😫 It was awful, but eased after a couple of days.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 21/12/2021 23:13

I wouldn't say severe, but my arm and shoulder were certainly uncomfortable after my Moderna booster. I couldn't sleep on that side and reaching up was downright painful. It passed after a few days though.

My previous Astra Zeneca jabs had no effect, but then it turns out they didn't protect me that well either.
