Children’s recurrent symptoms, reinfection, a different virus?

My DD tested positive for covid nearly 3 weeks ago. She was asymptomatic, only tested her because I had symptoms.

Over the last few days she's started coughing and last 24 hours has high temps.

Am I supposed to test her again? But won't it pick up historic infection and so not really tell me anything.

Restart isolating even though she's already done her 10 days?!

Panic she has long covid?!

Or just assume it's a non-covid virus & do nothing?

Yes, if you have new symptoms you do another PCR

The guidelines are to test with PCR again. We are in a similar position except it's been 8 weeks since the previous infection. I'm so worried it'll be positive but from last time. We've done the test now though so have to wait and see.

There must be so many people in this situation and lots probably ignore it as they don't know that they're meant to test again within 90 days when there a new symptoms.

But if it's positive what does that tell me. It could be the 3 week old covid or it could be new covid

I agree. It's so confusing. This also happened with another DC with the exact same timeframe as you. I wasn't aware of the need to retest so at that time we isolated again. There were many cases in class at the same time as the second possible infection so I don't know if it was a reinfection. First time asymptomatic.

Eugh it's all so annoying!!!!!
