CEV and still expected to go to work

I am just wondering if there are other people in the same position as me. I am clinically extremely vulnerable ie. I needed a third dose of vaccine due to immunosuppression but I am still expected to go to work. I am health care professional so the risk is medium / high.

Anybody else in this situation?

Yep, my mum who is immunosuppressed due to medication and also due her 4th vaccine - she works as a cleaner in the local hospital…

Get an FFP3 mask. Those will protect you much better than cloth or surgical masks.

Can you work from home ?

DSGR · 20/12/2021 22:25

Really rough at the moment for CEV people but because there is no guidance from government to shield (as we have vaccines), yes your workplace can demand you go in. Must be very hard

@userxx

Can you work from home ?
not poss for most HCPs.

I'm not in your situation but I'm an employer in a practice ( health care based). I have a patient facing staff member who is extremely clinically vulnerable.
We've done our risk assessments, snd she's discussed her health concerns with her consultant. We've tried to adapt her role to making it non-patient facing, but at the same time we need her on the premises physically.
She's taking daily lateral flows ( as all staff are doing), wearing full PPE, and social distancing.
She's well paid, and we are a small business. We simply cannot afford for her not to work.

She IS expected to be in work.

Shielding has ended everyone has to go back to work. I am CEV too.

CoffeeRunner · 20/12/2021 22:50

I am also a HCP. Several colleagues are CEV & still needing to come into work.

Shielding has not been reintroduced.

Ineverpromisedyouarosegarden · 20/12/2021 22:51

No unfortunately I am not able to work from home.

Yes you will still be expected to go into work because shielding doesn't exist anymore, neither does the term CEV.

userxx · 20/12/2021 23:10

Sorry, didn't realise what a hcp was. If you're really concerned then I'd be looking for another job.

Ineverpromisedyouarosegarden · 20/12/2021 23:11

Yes I know shielding doesn't exist anymore but it's still concerning. I have four kids I don't want to end up another person who died with underlying health issues. I don't want to be more vulnerable but I am.

I have four kids too. I can't afford to pay someone's wages because they want to shield. I need to keep a roof over our head. It might be different if we could furlough, but that isn't an option anymore ( never really was an option).
Plus our services within the health service are required pretty urgently at present.
Sadly if you feel this way and your employer isn't happy to give away money for you to stay at home and not work, then your only option really is to get a different job where you can work from home
