Save our schools!

So, the Government has had ample opportunities to invest in schools to reduce the spread of Covid ie air filter systems but instead we were given a few CO2 monitors (one per 3 classrooms) and told to ignore the red flashing light and open a window.

Do we really think ex-teachers will ‘answer the call’ to save our schools?

@Derrymum123

CO 2 monitor in my class is always in the red once 30 children arrive. Opened a window and was slated by Deputy Head for my room being too cold. Her bright idea was to unplug the monitor and tell the children it must be faulty. It has since found a way in to the store cupboard. Lasted less than a week. Last days of term I had 12 children attending. The rest all had a covid code next to their names on the register. Maybe parents were getting ready for Christmas but at least 5 definitely were covid PCR positive.
That should be criminal - absolutely disgusting

Given the choice, I think I'd rather go back than go near Gove. It's a close run thing though

BustopherPonsonbyJones · 20/12/2021 20:25

I love the idea of making it compulsory for OFSTED inspectors to act as supply in schools. Anyone with UsForThem membership should be forced to join them. I’d tolerate their presence for the sheer joy of watching them cope with the situation over the next term. What beautiful poetic justice!

mrshoho · 20/12/2021 20:40

Come on all you Usforthem members! This is your moment to really shine and save our schools. Get stuck in and ensure schools remain open. If Unvaxed and unmasked is your preference I suggest volunteering in primary or even our SEN schools.

MrsHamlet · 20/12/2021 20:51

I'd love to see them deal with my Bobs 😂

Usforthem can have bottom set year 11 P5 on Fridays. I'm sure they'll all get along fine (I love them but they are hard work unless have v sassy sense of humour). And OFSTED are welcome to try their luck with my class of disaffected students who hate school, hate life and enjoy nothing than eating cover teachers alive. Again I adore them but it's taken a long time to gain their trust. But as all OFSTED inspectors are always outstanding it will be a doddle for them.
Off go another LFT as loads of staff tested positive last 48 hours - we broke up Friday. 🤞🤞

MrsHamlet · 21/12/2021 19:13

Nope.
Us for ourselves will prize my Bobs out of my cold dead hands. They're my Bobs and we've worked hard together.

mumsneedwine · 21/12/2021 19:57

@MrsHamlet v true. Be fun to watch though 😇

MrsHamlet · 21/12/2021 20:00

True. One of mine has a special way with people he thinks are tossers. Strangely he and I share a tosser list 🤷‍♀️

neveradullmoment99 · 21/12/2021 21:01

@noblegiraffe

And this from the government website.

Nothing says 'We've struck the balance between managing transmission risk and reducing disruption to education' better than HELP US! WE HAVE RUN OUT OF TEACHERS BECAUSE THEY'VE ALL GOT COVID!

Ha ha ha ha ha... So very true. What planet are the Tories on? Seriously?

Absolutely disgusting.
We have Co2 monitors that are centralised. No idea about the ventilation in my class. Absolutely scandalous. We have been told not to touch them. Its almost like they have put them to pay lip service as no teacher knows safe measures. It doesnt beep buzz or anything.
Its shocking.

neveradullmoment99 · 21/12/2021 21:07

They are centralised to the LEA.

mumsneedwine · 22/12/2021 09:05

As a science teacher I rigged up my own - none been supplied to us. I had lots of test tubes on lime water, which went v v cloudy v v quickly. Downside was my classroom was obviously not well ventilated (soooo strange as windows open 1/2 inch). Upside, my students now all remember the test for CO2 !

Well nothing here to prepare where I teach. No-one is talking about online learning. Not a soul.

We have not heard anything official but the school rang checks in every room to make sure that all the equipment for online learning worked.

Just posted this on another thread.

My DD currently have Covid. Yesterday, when I was talking to Test and Trace, I said I have informed their school they were now positive. Call handler responded with ‘We have advised schools to monitor emails over the holiday.’ Then he followed up with ‘Tbh, I can’t see schools going back in January with the amount of calls I’m making to school age kids and school staff’.
