Train journey while awaiting PCR

A niece has just made a 5 hour trip home on a train from London. Got on the train this morning having taken a PCR last night. Bingo just had a positive result. She's poorly too - achy and sweaty and coughing. She shouldn't have travelled by train should she?
I get that she wanted to get home and not quarantine in London but I'm pretty cross that my sister or her ex h didn't go up and get her rather than potentially infecting a train carriage.
I haven't tackled sister over this because I think there's no point. But am I right to be inwardly fuming that someone else's Xmas is likely ruined?

Yes that's completely out of order and directly against the rules especially if she is symptomatic. Would be acceptable for parents to fetch her by car as long as they drove straight home with no contact with others in my view, though I think would be strictly speaking against the rules.

I work on the railway and its people like this that make me dread going to work at the moment! Very selfish and irresponsible!

fuckfuckfuck2021 · 19/12/2021 16:48

That's disgusting that she has done that! It was so irresponsible and selfishAngry

Foolsrule · 19/12/2021 16:51

So selfish and totally makes a mockery of those of us who follow the rules in a bid to help others. I wonder if she’s tried isolating with small children for 10 days?! I wouldn’t have anything further to do with her. Utterly reckless and she should face a criminal charge IMO.

AD80 · 19/12/2021 16:53

Margaret Ferrier comes to mind. Very selfish behaviour.

Joinedforthis2021 · 19/12/2021 16:53

No wonder train crew are unable to run trains due to selfish people amongst us... Yet us passengers are the first ones to complain when trains ate cancelled due to lack of train crew.

NovemberNovemberDarkNights · 19/12/2021 17:17

Stupid, selfish, irresponsible little madam.

Sadly, she won't be the only student doing the same thing.

Did your sister see her before she went to her Dads? Was your sister planning on socialising with you/your parents over Christmas? I presume she will actually isolate at her Dads for the correct number of days now, without seeing grandparents etc?

Roundeartheratchriatmas · 19/12/2021 17:21

That is fucking disgusting.

What if someone on the train was vulnerable and dies because of her selfishness ? As it is she’s likely ruined Christmas for several of those on the train with her.

What an absolute cunt.

SomethingOnce · 19/12/2021 17:23

What an absolute cunt.

That was my first thought tbh.

Not a student. Been in a big girl job for over a year.

I reckon more people do this than we could ever imagine. People can be great at following the rules until the moment when it's going to inconvenience them. Then suddenly it's a case of 'oh but I had no choice', or 'I wasn't prepared for this and had to (insert extremely selfish action here).

Awful behaviour.

Bagadverts · 19/12/2021 17:44

If she had symptoms illegal and dreadful. Potentially not just in the train - other public transport such as bus or tube to the station, queue to enter at ticket barrier, maybe get a coffee before getting on the train?

WtfHuh1122 · 19/12/2021 17:48

Do you know why she took the PCR? I assume there was a reason.

You're most contagious just before the symptoms start too.

Your niece is a selfish idiot

JuergenSchwarzwald · 19/12/2021 18:00

Isn't this the reason we all wear masks on the trains? Every time I've been on one there's been someone coughing away! Hence why I invested in some FFP2 masks for when I had to go into the office.

No need to use the c word by the way.

tangyandsalty · 19/12/2021 18:03

Yes, very irresponsible of her. I was on a train the other day and there was a young woman coughing and sneezing in the seat behind, I got straight up and had to stand at the end of the carriage (she may have just had a cold but I wasn't taking any chances)

crazycrochetlady · 19/12/2021 18:04

She'd taken two LFs which were negative and pushed on with PCR because she'd had close contact and was feeling 'under the weather'. So had a strong suspicion she was positive. I mean you'd only push on with that PCR of you were pretty sure you had it wouldn't you?

Choux · 19/12/2021 18:11

Your niece's attitude up is exactly why I got up at 5.30am on Friday when I needed to get a train up to my parents who are in their 80s and not in the best of health. I couldn't risk being on a busy train with people who had been out socialising, not doing lateral flows or suspected they had covid and were getting to where they wanted to isolate.

Feeling under the weather = she had symptoms. And had a close contact who was positive. Utterly selfish.

WtfHuh1122 · 19/12/2021 18:18

What's done is done. Just got to hope she hasn't ruined anyone's Christmas. Thing is she probably has.

Bubblty · 19/12/2021 18:39

If you do a PCR you wait for the results. Otherwise what is the point of doing one. I'd seriously go NC over this.

Marylou62 · 19/12/2021 19:08

Was she coming to Cornwall? Just a guess....
Totally selfish of her...

cheninblanc · 19/12/2021 19:42

Very selfish.

DoubleDeckerSwimmer · 19/12/2021 19:57

Outrageous and hugely disappointing.
