Covid in the household - can I go for my booster?

My three year old tested positive on a LFT yesterday. My understanding is that the rest of us don't have to self-isolate, just book PCRs (which we have) and take daily LFTs. However, we are planning to stay home anyway, it seems sensible (and we're lucky that neither of the adults have to go out to work this week) but the one thing I'm not sure about cancelling is our booster jabs (mine tomorrow, DH on Thursday). Assuming I have another negative LFT tomorrow would you go? Can I even go - will they ask me at the vaccine centre if I've been in contact with anyone with covid?

I’m pretty sure when I went they asked if I’d had contact with anyone +ve recently. I’m not sure what happens if you say yes…

When I went for my booster earlier this week (south east) they were asking everyone this and sending anyone home who answered yes.

NHS/Govt. websites both say yes, with a negative lft you can. You can also do so if you have cold symptoms, again with negative lft.

Sorry, don’t know how to link but the advice is easy to find and very clear.

You can’t have the booster if you are waiting for a PCR result.

Wisteria1979 · 19/12/2021 10:51

They will ask if you are waiting for results - so wait for your pcr before going. I was allowed because I wasn’t waiting for results even with positive cases in house.

Thanks - can you tell me what you searched if you can't link? I did look and could find the general information telling me I don't need to isolate but not specifically on being vaccinated.

Well that's logical isn't it 🤦🏻‍♀️

@HardbackWriter I think they say no because you shouldn't have the vaccination if you might be brewing covid, too much for your body to cope with. I think you need to postpone.

I typed “can you have your booster with cold symptoms” and it popped up.

It says as long as your lft is negative, you can have it.

That just brings up a few newspaper articles that answer that specific question, which isn't my question? I don't have cold symptoms. And also some of those articles say yes and some say no, so all round that doesn't seem like useful information!

I'm not so fussed about mine but if DH can still have his we really want him to - he's a teacher and if he doesn't have his booster on Thurs it'll mean that he'll have to go into next term without having one/without it having had time to become effective.

Please don't go to a vaccination centre and put all the volunteers and your community at risk if you are a close contact!!! Which you both clearly are. Reschedule for later on.

stuckinsouthafrica · 19/12/2021 13:50

No you can't. They ask if you've had contact with a position case within past 10 days and those who say yes are turned away.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 19/12/2021 13:52

Had my booster today and they asked if I had covid in last 28 days not if anyone in family has

treehousethunderstorm · 19/12/2021 13:57

My daughter tested positive and I asked test and trace the same question. They said if your pcr is negative and negative lateral flows, then yes, definitely go and get your booster.
