Can an upset stomach be a covid symptom?

DS has a very upset stomach- the rest of us are fine. He's in bed at the mo and I'll give him a covid test when he gets up.

Just wondered if anyone had had an upset stomach with covid?

The way it is at the moment, MN'etters will tell you everything is a symptom of covid.

Thay said, there is some evidence that in children an upset stomach is indeed a symptom. Although my 3 have all had stomach bugs and been covid free in the last couple of months.

It's so variable.
So far my child who just tested positive has had bad cold symptoms

I tested positive only today and feel decidedly icky.

Only way to know is to test

The main symptom I had when I had covid, along with temperature and body aches, was gastro problems, and this was during the first wave.

I had an upset stomach as one of my first symptoms. Didn’t put two and two together till I tested positive that evening!

My dd first symptom in October was vomiting. Tested positive the next day

Yes. DD and DGD both started with stomach issues, negative LFT’s but positive PCR.

Went on to develop full covid

WasgijGods · 19/12/2021 11:05

Yes it absolutely can, especially in children. Or it could just be a stomach bug.

I had terrible stomach problems when I had covid back in January this year.

That’s so true, around here everything is Covid

Broken arm = Covid
Fell off roof = Covid
Etc

Yes, a friend of DS even went to hospital with stomach problems and it turned out to be covid.

MrNapkinHead · 19/12/2021 11:27

I had a very upset stomach and fever at the very start of the pandemic (March 2020) but we werent able to test back then so couldn’t confirm if it was covid or not.

But I got the same symptoms in July this year and tested positive. It was the first symptom, along with a sore throat, followed a few days later by a temperature and all over body aches.

chesirecat99 · 19/12/2021 12:10

Yes. DS and all his friends had D&V (uni students) as the first symptoms with delta but not when they had it in the first wave. FWIW, they didn't get a +ve LFT until the next day after the onset of symptoms.

It has been reported as a possible symptom since the start of the pandemic. I believe even in the first wave, D&V without a cough was reported as a common symptom in young children (primary age).
