When did your sense of smell/taste go?

I'm confirmed positive and on the 4th full day of symptoms but - luckily - have my sense of taste and smell still. Am I being too optimistic to think I've avoided that part of it?!

The first time I didn't lose my sense of taste or smell. I did the second time, about 4 days after I started having symptoms, and I lost them for 4 days.

For Dp it was day 1-2 so pretty soon and only lasted 3 days and it went back to fully quickly .

I tested positive last Sunday. But I'd had symptoms for days before and negative tests... after testing positive taste & smell went gradually, getting less and less up until Thursday when it totally went. Yesterday was the day it was fully gone. Im so congested which probably doesn't help!

Around day 5/6 I think…. Didn’t return for about 3 weeks.
DH caught Covid three months ago and his sense of smell/taste still hasn’t returned……..

CouldThisReallyBe · 18/12/2021 19:30

I didn't lose taste but lost smell around day 6. I'm one month post-isolation and still don't have my smell back 100%. I can smell strong smells (like garlic) but can't smell citrusy fragrances properly.

I read that loss of taste and smell is not such a symptom with the new variant. Key symptoms for Omicron are apparently runny nose, sore throat and headache.

Bobholll · 18/12/2021 19:33

I have 6 family members with omicron (presumably, they are in London/Surrey). None of them have lost it. Ranging today from day 5- day 10.

Whereas everyone I know who had Delta lost it in some sense! I lost mine on day 3.

ChristingleJingle · 18/12/2021 19:36

Interesting. We are in a high omicron area but I don't know if that's what I have (are people actually told?!).

My symptoms have mainly been fever, severe headache and gastric upset.

Mine went on the first day I got a positive lateral flow, so day 3.

witchimon · 18/12/2021 19:44

Positive lft on Friday, symptoms started on the Monday I think. I didn't lose sense of taste and smell until the Wednesday,

catchingzzzeds · 18/12/2021 20:00

I'm on day 7 of symptoms and have lost taste and smell today. Feeling totally pants and sorry for myself.

Sparkle275 · 18/12/2021 20:01

I lost mine on Day 4. I couldn't smell or taste a thing, it was grim. It's now been 2 weeks and my sense of taste is almost back completley, although some things taste a bit strange and my sense of smell isn't that great. I'm just happy i will be able to taste at Christmas. I do know people who didn't loose their senses at all, including my children. Hopefully yours will stay. Hope your feeling ok with covid.

ChristingleJingle · 18/12/2021 20:08

@catchingzzzeds so sorry to hear that, it sucks.

I've been feeling horrendous with other symptoms and also feeling sorry for myself.

Thanks to all those suffering

I lose my sense of smell and taste with every cold I get, it’s usually 2x a year. Takes about a week or two to come back.

Am waiting on a positive result after exposure and can still taste so fingers crossed as I expect that will definitely be one of my symptoms given how much I usually have it 😔

catchingzzzeds · 18/12/2021 21:38

@ChristingleJingle thank you, I really hope you're feeling better very soon
