Go early to see family to avoid lock down?

So reading the news and possible lockdown after Christmas I'm thinking of going to family now rather than as planned between Christmas and NY. Anyone else? Am I being a bit impulsive? It's a few hundred miles drive and we would stay a few nights so I'm a little worries that history will repeat and we wont be able to go on 27th dec as planned if I wait. All adults triple vaccinated and all will lft before we meet. It may be my dads last xmas....

If it was my Dad’s last Christmas I’d be ignoring any guidance to be honest and doing what ever I (and him) felt was best for the family.

Yanbu at all. I would do what works for you and your family, especially I'd your dad is unlikely to have another Christmas.

When you do see family, just a quick point that LFs can change so quickly. Please test right before you leave, even half a day can make a big difference.

Tbh, if you want to go now, go.

We're due to my parents after Xmas but so far not changing plans.

In your situation though, I'd prob go now and stay longer.

FWIW there won't be a lockdown. They know there isn't a hope in hell that people will comply

My friend's sister is just doing exactly this as they are in England with parents in Scotland so doing a last minute dash up (5 hours each way) this weekend in case planned visit between Xmas and NY can't happen - like last year. I suspect a lot of people will do this as a lot of weekend diaries have been emptied by cancelled parties.

If it was my dad’s last Christmas I’d probably ignore any rules that may or may not come in after Christmas anyway - but if it’s possible to, yes I might come home a bit earlier to secure it.

Thanks all we might just go for it! Yes will lft literally when in my home town
