Anyone been turned away from booster for poss previous myocarditis?

I went to get my booster today all keen and eager

I previously had 2 Pfizer jabs. On my second I had typical temp etc but also a high heart rate of 110-120 for around 24 hours around a day or so after. At the time I was told it was an immune response when I rang 111.

Anyway today when the Dr at the vaccine centre asked how I was with my last Pfizer and I told her about the palpitations she said 'that sounds like Myocarditis so I cannot give you Pfizer or Moderna...you will need AstraZeneca but it is not thought to offer as much protection.

I am glad she was vigilant but I have heard of tons of ladies my age (38) having similar but all still had a booster,?

My sister has had myocarditis twice pre Covid. She had az for her jabs and moderna for her booster. I don't think anyone ever asked her about it. I'd heard pfizer can trigger it so she stayed away from it but hadn't heard of it with moderna

Bells3032 · 18/12/2021 08:24

Ps the symptoms of myocarditis are more than just heart palpatatons and a high heart rate.

LemonCake79 · 18/12/2021 08:24

Have you tried getting in touch with your GP?

Was that your resting heart rate? If so that would be quite concerning.

LemonCake79 · 18/12/2021 08:26

That said my resting heart rate has been elevated for days after each dose of Pfizer. 5 beats after the first one. It with still within the normal range though so I considered it to be an immune response.

emmabombemmauk · 18/12/2021 08:46

That is what I thought that you would have pain etc too with myocarditis

emmabombemmauk · 18/12/2021 08:47

@LemonCake79 yes resting it was 110 roughly. But my heart rate is always in 80s or early 90s. I had a 24 hour ecg recently as I have always had it in 90s but all was fine just i have a higher heart rate.

It doesn't sound like myocarditis, my mum had it after the second jab and was taken to hospital by ambulance and stayed in over a week, she had physical symptoms of a heart attack and a strange heart rhythm, plus other elevated makers. It isn't just having a high resting heart rate for a day. Her reaction wasn't immediate, I think it was a week later. She also had to have a second ambulance after returning home for worsening symptoms, she was quite poorly, it was pretty scary. She's been told by a cardiologist shes not to have the booster, not great as she's also a nurse, she can get a medical exemption though.

Fair enough. A resting heart rate of 120 is outside the normal range which is why I said it would be of concern but as others have observed that isn't the only symptom of myocarditis and you say a higher heart rate is normal for you and has been investigated.

I don't know what you should do next. Did they just turn you away with no advice around next steps? I appreciate you don't see the point of an AZ but even if you did no where seems to be offering them as boosters. I think I'd try and get in touch with your GP.

Berlinkreuzberg · 18/12/2021 09:20

That's interesting. I had covid this time last year with a fast heart rate if walking around and a vice like feeling in my chest. Ended up with LC but gradually recovered. 10 days after first AZ jab I had a HR of 120 just walking around and ended up in A/E. Am now on b-blockers. I too was told it was an immune response. Still had 2nd AZ jab and 3rd pfizer but was relatively fine. Funnily enough @JumparooSavedMyLife I'm a nurse too and would be really worried about catching it from my patients. Hope she's ok now !

Gosh, how scary! Hope your mum is much better now Thanks

I am so sorry your mum has had myocarditis
I agree I thought there would be other symptoms

A fever or other vaccine side effects can raise heart rate - as others have said, myocarditis is more than just elevated HR (although is an important symptom that should be checked out if it persists)

@emmabombemmauk can you speak to your GP? Or failing that call 111 to discuss?

Ah if you had this did they discuss myocarditis & coronavirus/vaccine with you?

Seems like the team that organised this testing for you would be good people to speak this

My mum had myocarditis after her 2nd Pfizer back in July. She is in hospital at the moment, waiting for her second operation.

emmabombemmauk · 18/12/2021 12:01

@riveted1 no it was not mentioned related to jab. I had a 24 hrs ecg booked in for months before any vaccines but as the tape was post Pfizer episode I assume maybe an abnormality would have shown? I will ring another GP tomorrow to see if I can get some clarification around this

emmabombemmauk · 18/12/2021 12:02

@momima what symptoms did your poor mum have?

OP posts:
Indecisivelurcher · 18/12/2021 12:08

My husband had myopericarditus before as a reaction to a virus. He's had 2 Pfizer's and been fine. Is this something he should have been asked about?! Or only if it was a reaction to the vaccination? His booster is booked for tomorrow.
@momima what symptoms did your poor mum have?
Shortness of breath, (she couldn't even walk 10 steps without gasping for air), her lower leg (left) swollen in the beginning, both legs swollen after 2 months, heart arrhythmia and very lethargic.
