Contact with someone who has had positive LF - when should you PCR?

My parents were just called by a friend they saw yesterday to say they have just shown a positive LF test and are going for a PCR.

Parents now booking a PCR also but does anyone know if Test and Protect will make them do another if they contact them in a few days time? If thats the case they would rather just stay at home and wait to be contacted rather than PCR twice (they hate the tests).

I had read it was 3 days after contact in some boroughs.

Daily lateral flow unless symptoms?

Has the friend told T&T that they were a close contact? They won’t be contacted otherwise. Also, the PCR might well be negative today but positive in a few days.

Personally I’d wait 3-5 days to have a PCR

They won't be made to pcr at all if they are double jabbed but they are doing the right thing.

But it's probably too soon right now from experience. They could be negative today wnd positive tomorrow.

Dp was in a similar boat 2 weeks ago. He had spent the day at a conference with a colleague from work on the Wednesday. On the Thursday, colleague got a positive lft, followed by pcr. Dp did a pcr on the Friday evening 2 days after contact which came back negative. Saturdays lft was negative but sundays lft was a instant strong positive, confirmed by pcr. So it can change rapidly.

Dp's Friday evenings pcr was negative but Sunday mornings lft was positive. The line was instant and strong.

Have they got lateral flows? Pcrs are more accurate but lft's are a useful tool when in close contact for daily testing.

They picked up dp's covid before symptoms started! Then positive for me wnd Dd after being in contact with Dp before our symptoms started.

Their friend hasn't had a positive PCR yet they are away just now doing that so will be about 24 hours before they know for sure. They just had a positive LF this morning because they had a sore throat apparently. So no contact with T&T yet.

We are all being careful ahead of Christmas, friend just showed up at their house yesterday with cards and had a quick cup of tea, just shows how easy it is for plans to go crumbling down.

No, they shouldn't be asked tomorrow do another test if they've already been for one.

When my kids tested positive, T&T contacted my parents as close contacts. They explained they'd already had the PCR tests as they were already aware (thankfully negative). That was noted and accepted as fine.
