Got 1st vac booked this afternoon and terrified!

Can someone talk me down with links to all the reassuring data!

I've got horrendous anxiety and depression and as a result for various reasons have kept putting off getting vaccinated including a terrible reaction to a flu jab about 15 years ago.

I finally managed to book and have an appointment (along with the DSs) this afternoon.

Someone has just said they've done away with the 15 min monitoring and proceeded to tell me all the horror stories about people being really ill from the jab.

I really want to go and get it but am almost in full on panic attack mode. Could do with some reassuring data and positive vaccination stories.

Distraction is a great technique if you can. Maybe getting your Mam telling stories or you as you’re waiting. In terms of after I had no side effects after first two at all. After the 3rd I did java bit of an off day with a bit of head fog and aches but paracetamol worked wonders and after a good rest I was fine. You’re doing great! For you and your family. Keep your eye on the prize and the big picture and know we’re all supporting you.

WakeUpLockie · 17/12/2021 12:49

Well done! Do you actually KNOW anyone personally who has had any problems from the vax in all this time? I don't. It's been a year and millions of people, since the vax came in. You'll be grand! Well done again.

Cornettoninja · 17/12/2021 12:56

Good for you.

I haven’t got a phobia but what I find helps for things I don’t want to do is to break things down into increments of time. So check my watch before I go in and tell myself in an hour I’ll be back at home drinking a coffee. Keep looking ahead and past the event that’s affecting you.

Goodmorninglights · 17/12/2021 12:57

When I had my booster I didn’t even feel the needle! You’ll be fine.

mummabubs · 17/12/2021 13:29

Well done for booking it OP, you should feel proud of yourself! 😊

I hate needles, always have done so wasn't looking forward to it. I've also had bad reactions to the flu jab every year I've had it as an NHS employee so was feeling particularly anxious.

I've had 3 covid vaccines to date (two whilst pregnant and I had to fight tooth and nail to get the first dose in January this year, feels a bit validating that they're now openly recommending it for pregnant women). I was absolutely fine after all 3 jabs despite assuming I'd have a terrible reaction like I do to the flu jab. My DH randomly felt unwell for 24 hours after one of his covid doses but recovered as quickly as he felt ill.

You can totally do this! 😁

Worriedofkent · 17/12/2021 13:36

I’ve had 2 Pfizer jabs and recently volunteered for the GSK/Sanofi booster trial. I had no side effects or illness whatsoever from any of the 3 jabs. Very very mild pain at injection site for Pfizer only.

You should be proud you overcame your fears to have it done.

I swear to god I'm going to be a blubbering wreck by the end of today, with the way its going (DS has come home from school and cried for good reasons).

You are not helping me holding it together!

Good for you. Well done. I hope you don't feel too unwell.

Congratulations OP :) Flowers Wine

I think in approx 8 weeks you get to do it again haha. Did you chat to the staff and volunteers about your worries or just go for it? Enjoy your weekend.

Well done Flowers

You might feel a bit ropey tomorrow, but it’s perfectly normal and will pass as quickly as it arrives.

BlueEyesWhiteDragon · 17/12/2021 15:49

Ohhh I haven't decided a film to so open to ideas!

We seem to have done most of Netflix. Or at least more recent ones - the DSs rule our most anything over 10 years due to CGI! They missing out on loads of classics because of this but I can't think of a film spectacular enough to lure them in so they forget there frankly ridiculous prejudice against "old" films!

I might do that new one on Amazon. I'm going to watch a cheesy Xmas romcom after but won't subject them to that so will pick something comedy / action for us all :)

Well done OP - that was a brave thing to do. I hope you feel well (I just had a sore arm all three times). Enjoy your film - Red Notice is quite good fun, as is Jungle Cruise!
