I was just wondering since alot of people have has jabs. Did people start to relax a bit everything started to feel pretty close to normal. Just as that happend this new stronger form of covid comes along.

One side of me feels a bit scared about it and the other side is thinking is it real? Things were just starting to settle and on top of Xmas the shit hits the fan again.

Please get this moved to the Coronavirus board.

It's there for a reason.

Takingabreakagain · 16/12/2021 14:28

It's not a stronger form though. The scientists who discovered it have said the government are overreacting, that it may be more transmissible but it's milder - which is what viruses tend to do when they mutate.

xxxGirlCrushxxx · 16/12/2021 14:38

There will be more variants to come yet possibly

But they seem weaker. I think we will have a few years ahead yet

trumpisagit · 16/12/2021 15:06

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water...

I know what you mean OP.
It's important to remember that the virus isn't some malevolent entity, but just a virus finding the best way to replicate.

luckylavender · 16/12/2021 15:25

@Takingabreakagain - one GP has said that. Scientists are not saying that at all.

www.telegraph.co.uk/global-health/science-and-disease/south-africa-continues-report-mild-disease-omicron-surges/
Doctors in South Africa continue to report 'far milder' symptoms.
Unless someone is vulnerable they don't need be scared of this new variant. Those who are vulnerable can do what they need to do to protect themselves as they would have done previously.

This.

It is not a stronger form, it's just more transmissible. It will still be mild for most. The concern is how the NHS will cope as if lots of vulnerable people catch it at once it could result in lots of hospitalisations.

Whammyyammy · 16/12/2021 15:58

I relaxed a lot, went out to pubs, restaurants, abroad 3 times this summer. Still relaxed now.
Its people whipping themselves into their frenzy

Waxonwaxoff0 · 16/12/2021 15:59

Also I'm still relaxed. Not scared.
