A three weeks ago I'd really started to believe this Christmas was one to look forward to

And made some lovely plans.

This week:

-my Christmas party has been cancelled
-the play I was supposed to see on Friday has been cancelled
-the sports event I was supposed to be at on Saturday is off
-my sister's plans to visit are all changed because of the French travel issues

There might not be lockdowns or many new restrictions, but it's happening anyway Sad

Hopefully Christmas day will still happen as planned, but as a widow with adult children and no GC, that's not the best bit for me.

Same here, only said yes 2 weeks ago to family together on Boxing Day. DH isn’t going to xmas dinner tomorrow with 40 men, a few have cancelled and he’s now annoyed as everyone keeps saying if you get it, it will be mild, but they are mostly in their 30’s and DH is 64 with a heart condition. DS 25 is still out and about and to be honest we’re quite jealous that he feels happy doing so. Other DS 29 is asking if we can go on long dog walks over Christmas as he wants something to look forward to, as he cannot see us doing much else. With 3 men in my house, they all love their football, which looks like these are going to be cancelled.

It's crap isn't it. I feel sorry for everyone today. We could all have done with a nice Christmas after all the crap of the past couple of years.

SummerHouse · 16/12/2021 16:44

If the past couple of years have taught me anything, it's to enjoy what you can, when you can.

We have some sick family, one awaiting treatment, one awaiting diagnosis, one awaiting the worst.

So help me god I will find any little scrap of good and I will cling to it and magnify it and share it.

TheVampiresWife · 16/12/2021 16:49

Oh OP, I know. I totally get it.

We have no friends or family so Christmas for us is all about things like carol services, theatre visits, day trips and so on. I've had a shit year, I've been really unwell mentally and physically, and I needed this so much.

Looks like my ds has covid so chances are I'll be spending Christmas in a Premier Inn.

HesterShaw1 · 16/12/2021 16:54

Sorry OP. It's really shit 💐

shinynewapple21 · 16/12/2021 19:32

I'm with you OP

Feeling really deflated at the moment .

3 weeks ago we had 40k+ cases per day so this really shouldn’t be that big of a surprise things are being cancelled. Omicron has simply sped up the inevitable restrictions Delta was heading towards, patty’s and theatre shows in winter are just an impossibility now.

Yes it’s totally shit but we’re all in the same boat all around the world. There’s not really a lot you can do except find the good in the bad - otherwise the next few years just end up looking extremely bleak and depressing.

Next Christmas my advice is don’t get your hopes up despite what BJ and chums are saying in the face of another huge wave because you can guarantee we’ll be in exactly the same situation.
