Can you end isolation early by re-doing pcr?

DS(16) has covid and has been isolating in his room. He is on day 7 and absolutely sick of it.

I know someone who test positive, started self isolating, did another pcr half way through isolationg period which came back negative so stopped isolating! Doesn't sound right to me and can't find anything online about it. My mum is egging me on to do this so DS can stop being locked up in his room.

Anyone know anything about this? Is it possible to still spread it within the 10 days even if another test shows positive?

@Delatron

Yeah I think it depends on the age. I still cuddled my 11 year old. I think I wiped down the bathroom a few times but I’m suspicious he may have shared a toothbrush with his brother who remained negative!
I was still cuddling DS when he was 11. But I can assure you the last thing DS would now want is a cuddle from me!

Yes my 13 year old DS would not want a cuddle and would be happier in his room.

I think ventilation is key so you could open windows after he’s been in the kitchen for example.

My son is 19 and still gives me a cuddle.

Not in public obvs, that would be far too uncool.

Admittedly he’s only 4, but I cuddled my Covid positive child to sleep in a bottom bunk bed tonight

I had to continue spoon-feeding, face-wiping, and changing pads (including bum cleaning) for our disabled 12yo when he was Covid positive. I didn't get cross-infected.

A bit of a derail but did he ever stop cuddling you? I'm hoping DS will start cuddling me again one day Sad

@PotteringAlong

You’ve had literally months and months to get vaccinated. It’s not your teenagers fault you’ve only had one dose very recently! Let him out of his room!
This!!

Also, won't his PCR be linked to his NHS number? Surely test & trace will be able to see that he's only just had one.

I would definitely say let him out of his room, he is allowed in the rest of the house and garden. Maybe you could go out so he can have free reign of the house for a while without getting too close to you.
You aren't guaranteed to catch it from him, I didn't get it from my daughter and she literally sneezed in my face when she was covid positive 🤪
