Sore throat in 13 yr old daughter

He has a sore throat and vaguely unwell but none of the symptoms listed on gov sites. I've read the new variant can be pretty much like a cold. Would you take him for a PCR? To get one I would have to lie on the form so I'm not sure.

There are a lot of bugs flying around at the moment but I wouldn’t think twice about lying to get access to a PCR if I was concerned. The list of three symptoms that trigger access to a PCR is woefully out of date and wasn’t comprehensive in the first place. Look up triggers for PCR’s in other countries such as the US. Also if it doesn’t abate and you seek further attention from the GP it’s almost guaranteed they’ll ask if you’ve ruled out covid.

I’m of the opinion that it’s practically impossible to ‘waste’ a PCR test. If you have suspicions then that’s enough. Supply should increase to match demand imho.

Have you any lfts at home? That would be a useful first screener but yes I'd go for a pcr, just tick the contact another way box. If you've a child in school they're a contact every day frankly!

Thank you, I think the same. Thanks for your help

We've got covid and not had any of the main 3 really - not to start with anyway.

Likely she has just your average winter virus but just can't tell. Not obliged to test her but it would be an idea to do so given current circumstances.

Yes just get one

Mummyratbag · 14/12/2021 12:15

Watching as in similar position - child has negative LFT, but has headache and sore throat..none of symptoms that justify PCR. No idea if he has been in contact with anyone as school no longer has to tell us.

Megacervixosaurus · 14/12/2021 12:17

Yes, I’ve just tested positive with symptoms of a sore throat and temperature, no other symptoms.

herecomesthsun · 14/12/2021 12:27

DD 9 tested positive on LFTs yesterday, symptoms were sore throat and a temperature.

Scbchl · 14/12/2021 12:30

My son had sore eyes. That was all and he tested positive on the lft and on a pcr just click yes for symptoms.

Toadsinholes · 14/12/2021 12:32

Those are the symptoms my dd has & she was positive. Get a PCR.
