Walk in or wait for appointment?

Hi,

Mid 30's, double vaccinated and got a text from my GP saying they'd be in contact to arrange my booster, but who knows when that will be?! Tried booking on the phone when NHS booking crashed, but I couldn't get an appointment for several weeks, so they recommended I went to a walk in centre.

Only one with boosters is 30 minutes away, which is ok, but tbh I don't really fancy waiting around for hours in a big crowd of people. Trying to reduce contact as much as possible before Christmas.

Are all walk ins basically rammed right now?

Although nobody gone in for about 10 minutes now so not sure what’s happening. If they’ve run out I’m giving up in the project. Not taking another morning off work so I’ll have to just take my chances!

DH and I have appointments - we could have got our boosters earlier by doing walk-ins but didn't think a week or two earlier would make any significant difference. We both work from home, and avoid indoor spaces, so we're low risk. If I were a teacher I would probably have braved a queue.

Late at night about 1150 there were loads of slots- a bit like the tesco delivery slots I guess they upload more through the day

Keep checking the booking site again in the next couple of days, especially very early/very late in the day when most people won't be trying.

My GP surgery sent me a link to book with them yesterday (I'm 38). At first there was nothing available until 30th Dec and a few hours later when I checked again I was able to book for this Friday within a 10 minute walk from home. I expect lots more appointments will be added in the coming days, it is just taking time to organise it all after the announcement on Sunday.

I wouldn't want to queue for hours at a walk-in at the moment.
