How do you volunteer to be a steward at Vaccination Centres?

I can’t do the actual vaccinations but wonder if I can help out as a steward. Does anyone know how you go about it? TIA

Ahh too slow lol

RumHoney · 12/12/2021 20:45

I was just looking into this - I have time off over Christmas and no real plans. The problem is that I can't really commit to anything longer term.

sashagabadon · 12/12/2021 21:06

Goodsam app. They are desperate for stewards, loads of unfilled shifts in my area. I’ve done it a few times, it’s actually quite fun. You can get 4 hour shifts if longer shift too long

You choose your shifts. On the app you can see all the vaccine centre’s in your area with shifts, the days and times and you choose where you want to go and what days. No need to commit indefinitely.

This is just England. Any ideas for Scotland?

Coronachristmas21 · 12/12/2021 21:16

A relative of mine did it for a while. She was voluntary but would just guide people where to go when they got there. I think she had seen it advertised somewhere. Maybe worth asking at your local site if you can find a number! This is right at the start though when they started jabbing, May have changed now. She had to give it up due to other commitments and ill health in the family.

Your council should have the details of your local volunteer hub. (If you have one).

Workyticket · 12/12/2021 21:22

I juat downloaded the goodsam app but when trying to create a profile it's asking whether im a dentist/nurse/ other etc and asking for my registration number.

Not sure where I'm going wrong!

NoseringGirl · 12/12/2021 21:24

Have a look at the royal voluntary service (once you've signed up, you can use the good Sam app to book shifts)
Anyone thinking about it, please please please do it! We're desperate for more people, now more so than ever!

Marshwawows · 12/12/2021 21:27

If you signed up to the GoodSam app initially, does anyone know how you change role? Have been looking for a link.

Cookerhood · 12/12/2021 21:45

Our local council recruits volunteers.

I think that the goodsam app itself was designed for professionals, hence the limited options to sign up

The goodsam website covers various ways of volunteering
With this link when you select your area the types of volunteers currently being sought is listed:

I've been stewarding at my local GP hub all year but have plenty of free time to do more so signed up to use goodsam app.
I've just clicked to do a session tomorrow morning, but not sure if I have to wait for some response or do I just turn up? @sashagabadon

Frazzled2207 · 17/12/2021 13:33

Don’t volunteer with St. John ambulance. I did earlier this year and it has all been quite badly organised and a huge disappointment. Wasted far more time “training” and trying to get shifts than I actually did at shifts.

The shifts I did I enjoyed.

British Red Cross volunteers were in touch with me earlier this week for either stewarding vacc centres or helping distribute LFTs. I'm Scottish, but don't know if it was a general appeal.
Cookerhood · 17/12/2021 14:38

I've been jabbing for St John Ambulance all year. I agree it's been a bit chaotic but I've enjoyed it now I've settled into a routine.
