Nearly 60k cases in last 24 hours

I think we have been around 40k cases per day so looks like numbers are going up.

Is it too early to think this is new variant related or more likely that Christmas party / shopping related?

who knows, I went to the o2 arena in London last Saturday and no one was asked to show proof of vaccination or negative test in spite of being emailed beforehand saying we had to show this on entry. There were thousands of people there.
I found that quite shocking.

There must be many more cases in reality as there will be people not wanting to ‘be positive’ at this time of year if they have lovely things planned. I’ve been told be several people that if they don’t have the test, they won’t need to isolate. Guess they mustn’t have any vulnerable family members they plan to see over Christmas!

Maybe they don't have any vulnerable family members they are seeing over Christmas, maybe they are not seeing anyone else.
