Hi what do you think the chances are Nicola Sturgeon will pull the plug on mass celebrations this year?

We have tickets for Edinburgh but wondering if we should make other arrangements.

She'd love to. Really love to, in order to show that she is oh so different from Boris.

In reality, she hasn't the money to pay furlough or compensation. And the hospitality sector hate her already. She will just start with the passive aggressive stuff about not killing granny and "just because you can doesn't mean you should".

willithappen · 10/12/2021 08:20

Not a chance. She knows what the majority of us think now, and our anger toward Boris and the UK government and this is, quite honestly, her perfect moment to get more on side for independence.
We're living in Scotland where the majority voted SNP yet having to be dictated by Tories in a gov we didn't vote for. Up the outrage, give the people what they want and support will be stronger than ever

Ps it’s Scots! And not a chance!!

Forgiven lol!! Remember thermals & wrap up very very warm….

Kshhuxnxk · 10/12/2021 08:37

Yeah I think she will cancel it because as a one off event furlough isn't required as such.. Hate her with a passion as does every one of my previously hardcore SNP friends

containsnuts · 10/12/2021 08:48

It's possible. Pretty sure they retained the power to shut-down events re covid if it's deemed a danger to public health - for example, they cancelled the Tough Mudder thing just a few hours before.

I think the issue with hogmanay is going to be the millions of people in pubs and homes - all the hugging, kissing, drinking and singing etc. The open air street party is probably the safest place to be!

containsnuts · 10/12/2021 08:56

To clarify, I think the local authority can cancel large events on public health grounds - it's not just Nicola Sturgeon's personal decision.

All cancelled, such a shame. We had restaurants, hotel, tours etc booked.Mostly with small and local independents.

I hope to goodness they can all survive this latest shock.
