Check your smoke alarms

I have covid and have lost smell and taste.

Left the grill on after my lunch today and who knows where I'd be if the smoke detectors hadn't gone off. Smelt literally nothing and the kitchen was pretty smoky.

No harm done but seriously, check your smoke alarms.

Really good call OP, and something that wouldn't have occurred to me or i imagine many other people!

I'm going to get off my butt and check mine again now.Grin

I do it every few months, but should probably have a regular day.

Yep, all three plus the CO alarm present & correct.

If your household includes children under 5, anyone with a disability or anyone over 65 your local fire brigade will come and fit smoke and heat detectors for free. Its a brilliant service and they'll go through any help you need with an evacuation plan or special needs. My deaf Grandma has been given a vibrating alarm to put under her pillow. I just filled out a form online and they came round the following week.

Ah that's a really great service, SuPerDoPer.

One area I lived, the fire brigade just door-knocked whole streets and fitted smoke detectors there and then. They also came in and checked existing detectors were adequate.

I guess they'd much rather be fitting detectors than pulling injured children out of buildings too late.
